Genuinely Creepy Music

I haven't heard that. I downloaded some Sunn O)))) a while ago and it was a little...ermmm...pompous.

Well it's kind of hammy and goth (obviously) but it is such a weird little song it does get under your skin in spite of that

Doesn't it just.. The medieval sounding guitar melody coupled with that eerie piano, then that chanting slowly creeps in. One of my favourite Bauhaus songs.

imagine waking up about 6pm on a sunday still a bit munted and that tune coming on Stuart Maconie's show.

Pie face made me turn it off and NEVER play it in the house again

I was testing out a PA in club last week and played Two of Us by Supermayer which someone said was really creepy.

Sometimes I find Boards of Canada a little bit creepy

definitely. there's an "out of focus" (if that makes sense) quality to them, and the idea of things that are barely heard, just out of range...

Aren't they a bit "mystically" inclined anyway? In a Coil chemistry and magick sorta way?

Yeah, well maybe mathmatically mystical or something like, I find Music Has The Right To Children pretty creepy

i find 'halber mench' incredibly uplifting for some reason... i love big choral pieces though, and i guess 'creeping sense of dread' is something i enjoy in a song...

anyway, my picks:

the sunn o))) / nww colab already mentioned
psychic tv - in the nursery (also thee wolf pound, and many others...)

number 1 is nico's 'the marble index' - i know she's not well thought of round here, but i've never found anything else quite so uncomfortable to listen to... not sure if i've made it all the way through yet...

I don't like shape note singing - it freaks me out.

Whassat then?

I fucking love the Frog Chorus. I used to watch that Rupert video obsessively- I'd rewind it as soon as it had finished and watch it all over again :D

I get scared by the 'Black Helicopter' section at the end of 'East Hastings' by Godspeed.

My year 6 teacher loved that film too, and used to give it to us to watch every time we had wet play.

I occasionally get musical hallucinations, they sound like a church choir singing in the distance, THAT is spooky, a non-existing choir singing hymns in your head! (They seem to be a good choir though, they sing rather well)

Pere Ubu -- 30 seconds over Tokyo
Sonic Youth -- Pacific Coast Highway and Schizophrenia
Dinosaur Jr. -- last song on "You're living all over me," sounds like a demo, with tape loops and that.
Big Stick -- Drag racing (creepy and somehow hilarious :hmm:)
SWANS -- Children of God
Blind Willie Johnson -- Dark was the night
Robert Johnson -- Come on in my kitchen, Stones in my passway, Hellhound on my trail, er, most of it really.
Butthole Surfers -- Jimmy and 22 going on 23

Blimey.

I don't like shape note singing - it freaks me out.

Really?! It totally uplifts me - gives me goosebumps and grit in my eye!

Not sure if it counts as 'creepy' as such, but I did scare myself listening to Butthole Surfers - Humpty Dumpty LSD on a badly lit motorway the other week. Sounds totally different in the dark with headlights flashing past you

Coil can be quite creepy.

As a new convert, I concur.

Also, I know I've posted this mix a million times already but it really is my favourite but genuinely unsettling things I've heard all year:

Abba make me feel very uneasy. It's not that I just don't like them, there's something about the shiny weird production and harmonies that really puts me on edge.

I also remember listening to Animal Collective - Feels on the way home from a squat party and it was just to much for me. I haven't been able to listen to it again.

My girlfriend finds TTC really creepy for some reason. Of all the weird shit I play at her, they're the only people she actually makes me turn off.

The bass/synth section where the cylinder unscrews on Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds...Burton's narrative seals it...

6 feet of shining screw protruded when suddenly...the lid fell off!

The threnody from Crumb's 'Black Angels' piece (it the theme tune to 'The Excorcist')

All of Ligeti's polyphonic stuff like Requim
