Gentlemen, how many words do you need to use when specifying your preferred haircut?

Anything more than six, and you are a fop.

I use one ("four"), although that's a bit of a cheat because I still need to nod curtly when the barber says "all over?".

'short back and sides guv'

although I've not been to the barbers in yonks. I grow my hair out in the winter and shave it in the summer. However I shan't use any establishment that lacks a stripey pole:mad:

"don't make me look a prat, love", spoken to my girlfriend when she decides that my hair is getting longer than she likes it and decides to cut it.

fortunately for me, this apparant sacrifice of my own self-expression masks a pleasant reality: firstly, that the style and length that she cuts it too accurately mirrors my preferred haircut; and secondly, it saves me money and having to talk to hairdressers who invariably don't understand my needs.

I was with a male friend once and we were discussing a mutual (also male) friend.

Mate: "He's changed his hair too."

Me: "In what way?"

Mate: "It used to be just normal. Now it's more sort of modern."

Me:

I think this was the entirety of the vocabulary he had available for discussing hairstyles.
