The Olympic flame was even in a cauldron shaped like a McD's fries box!
One PE lesson, for reasons I can't remember, they had to merge the boys and girls sessions. We ended up playing the girls at hockey.
I have never been more terrified playing sport
I use to play hockey in the Scouts, and even that was pretty brutal, although the refereeing was awful. I took a stick to the face and cried like a baby, but the ref gave THEM a penalty.
Never played it after. Felt betrayed!
Charlie Webster fighting for life in Rio hospital after contracting rare strain of malaria
Apparently she was told the areas she would be cycling through didn't require anti-malaria tablets.
A rum tale (Ryan Lochte and other swimmers claim to have been held up by false policeman... warrants to stop him leaving the country... pegs it... oh, just read the story..)
Swimmers in Ryan Lochte 'robbery' case taken off flight at Rio airport
I'm watching a men's doubles badminton match here, GB vs China.
The reflexes are gobsmacking. Don't think I've ever seen badminton before, it's very entertaining.
I don't know about others, but, despite the overwhelming success, I am finding it too difficult in a British sort of way to get really excited about it.
I am pleased of course, but thats about as far as it goes.
Mens BMX = carnage
My works medal sweepstake is getting quite exciting. Our departments guess was 22 golds & 59 medals in total.
Apparently she is out of her induced coma now, though still in intensive care.

So, Jade Jones is in the taekwondo semi at 9. Saw a bit of it earlier, no idea how it works.
Paralytic and fighting, not robbed at gunpoint.
A new video reportedly shows Ryan Lochte and other swimmers in an altercation with gas station security on night of alleged robbery
Apparently kicking your opponent in the head gets you three points...
And she's through to the final!
I don't do TaiKwanDo .....
I just don't get it ...
You kick them in the head and get three points. Well as far as I can work out anyway...
You should try the normal wrestling.
They hold each other in funny ways for about 5 minutes with nothing happening and, meanwhile, the scores mysteriously tick up...
They also seem to do a lot of shrieking in this. I reckon they're giving points for that, you know.

(Glad I'm not the only one with no idea what's going on with half this stuff.)
Why is the hockey pitch always wet?
They'll never get grass to grow on that
I think it's more so the players' teeshirts get all wet and sexy....
I get that, I think. Back in the days when winning 4 or 5 golds was seen as a good Olympics for GB, those medals seemed more special, and you knew who the winners were. Now that we're winning 20+ golds you begin to lose track of what some of them were for or who won them, and as a result the greater success becomes less meaningful. Even silver medals used to be seen as quite a big deal for us, but not any more. In the past I thought we tended to underachieve a bit, now I definitely think we're overachieving - but somehow it doesn't make it any more enjoyable.

So, what about Race Walking? There are two finals being walked this afternoon. Will anyone be watching them?
I will. Not sure why the women only do 20K compared to 50K for the men when the running marathons are the same though....
That's a bit like beating your dad up because you won the 5-a-side.
Here's why we can't justify spending £5.5m per Olympic medal, however good it feels
£5.5m per medal, can we afford it?
I agree it seems to be an historical anomaly.
But they have their decades of performances and records, so I guess they just chose to stick with the original distance.
Refreshingly, the US team authorities have apologized in a public and heartfelt way to their hosts....
