I think it's quite incredible that simply the announcement of such a consultation might result in such complete damnation before a single word has been spoken. And a damnation not limited to the announcement but also any subject anyone else might have an axe to grind on. I can only imagine these are driven by professional jealousy from one bare-faced opportunist to another, although he's the one with the publicity, and the record of doing good.
Exactly what is Sir Saint Bob's record for 'doing good'? He has raised a lot of cash for charities is all. Not a bad thing for sure but he has personally benefitted from his efforts to a considerable degree. And in the meantime he has accrued a reputation as a man who can get things done. His opinion as to how monies are spent in Africa actually counts for something in the minds of a large part of the public and among policy makers both elected and appointed.
All of which would be very nice if he had some real idea of how to end poverty in Africa and maybe a little bit of understanding that the money he helped raise was not his personal gift to Africa. But he doesn't and his ideas are the most abject shite.
Look Sir Saint Bob comes from a nice middle class background and family which means he got a halfway decent education. He got lucky with a few second rate pop hits and should then have faded away to do I don't know what. But he lucked out boosted a pop show and raised some dosh.
Now when all that happened twenty years ago Sir Saint Bob was not a millionaire but in the years since he has become a multimillionaire. Not from sales of his records or from concert receipts thats for sure. No he made a lot of money by becoming a media honcho and that only happened because of skills and more importantly contacts he got from LiveAid. Nothing illegal or even morally wrong, unless one is opposed to private enterprise, and everyone has to make a living right? Well perhaps but at least one documentary about Live Aid has been made by a company he owns. Which is a bit wrong I feel as it does mean that he indirectly profits from LiveAid does it not?
Well sure but he now thinks that without anybody, literally anybody, can repeat his success or at least do fairly well because obviously not everybody is as gifted as Sir Saint Bob! That he had advantages few in this country have and also got lucky simply doesn't occur to him. So he pimps the crap that he is fed by the bizness community that the African countries must play by the rules and do as they are told and all will be well with just a little bit of aid from famous pop stars. Always forgetting the real donors but of course!
None of which would matter if Geldorf shut up and simply lived his life. But no he not only wants to tell us how our money should be spent but he thinks he can tell Africa how its affairs must be ordered. And if other parties think that they might have something to say about world poverty Sir Saint Bob is always willing to ride rough shod over them as he has the expertise. He knows he tells us and we should should shut up roll over and do as we're told by the self proclaimed expert. Not that he won't be happy to take advantage of the work others have already done in publicizing his issues. Which he will then pimp to the general public as his efforts while giving the impression that only his solutions, that is those of the World Bank, are practical and that no one should even listen to anybody else.
In short Sir Saint Bob performs many useful functions for exactly those interests which maintain the present relations of exploitation and oppression that are bleeding Africa white. He is to all intents and purposes a publicist for the vampiric whores of Threadneedle Street. A pimp.
