Geldof cancels Italy concerts after low turnout

How could I forget Husker Du? I think we're going to have to split the lists into 1st gen and 2nd gen now..

I've never listened to much Black Flag and they're number #1 on your pretty damn fine list so I guess I'll go give them a go. Any stand-out tracks?

I have a tingle running down my perfectly formed spine as I type...

:D

My War
Rise Above
Nervous Breakdown
Black Coffee
I've Heard It Before
Annihilate This Week
You Bet We've got Something Personal Against You

..all rock my world.

The Live 84 album is a place to start but is over-priced in Virgin/HMV. If I had the means/hardware right now, I'd rip some stuff for you. But I don't. So I can't. :(

Cheers lightsoutlondon. I've added those tracks to my 'to listen to' list :)

'You Bet We've got Something Personal Against You' sounds cool on the name alone. I always think punk bands come up with better names for their songs than most other groups.

My pleasure. If I had to pick three BF tracks they'd be

My War
Black Coffee

and

Nervous Breakdown.

When I audition for a punky type band as a singer (as opposed to guitar), I always ask if we can do Black Coffee (a tough one to play...not all can deliver - especially guitarists and drummers) or Nervous Breakdown. A1 stuff.

Enjoy! Hope you like the tunes. :)

Have you heard Husker DU Neva? Also fabuloso. Get yourself a copy of 'Candy Apple Grey'.

Cheers, the only thing I've heard of theirs is a compilation album they released after they broke up. I only got it because it had a cover of Sheena Is a Punk Rocker!

It was a good album as comps go and Candy Apple Grey is only six quid on play including delivery. I'm tempted :) Maybe I'll stretch to the Live Black Flag album as well... fuck... it's out of stock. O well just the Husker Du for now then!

Bob Geldof is lovely, you're all mean, horrible nasty people if you don't like him. All he wants to do is make capitalism nice, what's so bad about that? When was the last time YOU helped The Poor? Hmm? Hmm???!!

Oh right. You're one of these who still buys 'em then?

Cough cough Bit Torrent cough..

I've downloaded over 200 gigabyte of music in the past but at the moment I'm not living at home so I don't want to start abusing other people's net connection with peer to peer programmes.

I'll pay six quid for an album and not mind considering about a month ago I added up the value of all the CDs, films and TV shows I've downloaded and it came to over seventy grand. That was going by a pound a song, five for a film and ten for a series of a TV programme to give you a sense of perspective.

It's The Poor to you. Anyway, I've been baking anti-poverty cakes since 4am this morning, listening to coldplay and geldof.

Perrrrrrrrrrrleaze. You'll be talking about 'the community' and 'working class solidarity next'.

*yawns*

I love Coldplay.

And U2.

I believe that music should give something back.

I like Phil Collins as well - any old, bald people in fact, be they trillionaires or not.

Lol not after an injection of geldof/cp politics I won't. It's all about making trade fair innit. For The Poor.

By record sales he is probably right , records sales usually = popularity.
I saw the Rats in the very very early days , they rode in on the wave of Punk and quickly moved MOR , there were a lot shittier bands trying to do the same thing and what they did they did well.
No he was quite clearly talking about how good they were rather than sales. When I was small, my brother sent me into town to buy a boomtown Rats album, some fucking shite early 80's job, I pretended I couldn't find it.

My 70's punk rock list.

1: The Sex Pistols
2: The Clash
3: The Ramones
4: The Saints
5: Wire
.

18: Sham 69

37: Cockney Rejects

1769: The Boomtown Rats

That's a fair assessment, fishy fingers. I note you've reversed my #1 and #2 positions though - a timeless argument.
