Gaza Aid Boat Rammed by Israeli Navy in International waters

And if getting aid in, as opposed to publicity was the real aim, why did they give out press releases before going, thus ensuring that the Israeli Navy knew they were coming?

A group of international activists said it would defy an Israeli blockade and send a boat with medical supplies to Gaza from Cyprus. Free Gaza Group spokeswoman Caoimhe Butterly said their 20-meter yacht Dignity would leave Larnaca port around 5 p.m. (1400GMT) Monday with 3.5 tons of donated ...

Until you look behind the title, as with Dr. Halpin, a longtime activist.

Ostensibly they were there for the politicking, not the doctoring.

As you ignored my previous post, my actually knowing Dr. Halpin personally obviously being somewhat inconvenient for your 'argument' (such as it is), I'll restate it for you:

'I know Dr. David Halpin personally, having met him several times, and he is NOT motivated by any anti-Israeli agenda as you seem to be implying. He's a surgeon who is rightly appalled by what goes on in the Occupied Territories and, as such, does what he can to raise money and donated equipment that goes direct to the Palestinian people.

Take it up with the Irish Times.

Because I cannot believe that I am reading all this BULLSHIT.

This aid boat contained 4 tonns of medicine. It is nearly NOTHING compared to the needs in Palestine, but even this means a lot for an area that is under blockade for so long. Also it was NOT their first trip to Gaza, they have done trips since August, providing as much as they can. Dignity was the first boat with aid that managed to break the israeli block in August and give some medicine to these people.

The greek government has allready sent 28 tons of medicine for Gaza with C-130 airoplanes. All this so important medicine was up to yesterday (more than a week after the shipping) still in the containers, as the israeli government was not letting it pass to Gaza. I think it did finally happen yesterday. More medicine are being gathered here in Greece in order to be sent again. This was the very first official shipment of medicine to Palestine since the start of this war.

Before going on taking the piss of such movements of people, when there is a so big shortage and need in Gaza for EVERYTHING, pleaze think over a bit..... If you still have some human feelings inside you, you will definately understand that ANYTHING that can reach Gaza at this moment, is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

Israeli air force has bombed a big medicine storage building that existed in Gaza, I did give you a video on the other thread some days ago with palestinian people looking in the ruins for not damaged medicine. That attack, made the problem of that area even worse, and ANY humanitarian aid NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL IT IS, is VERY helpfull.

One way to ensure that your boatload of medicine WON'T reach Gaza, is to give out press releases before departure, announcing your intention to run the blockade.

What were they thinking?

Perhaps so that, with the world watching, they would be safer?

Whenever taking part in a potentially dangerous action, unless secrecy is necessary, one always press releases.

No doubt they'd be safer when the Israeli Navy knows they're there, and is lying in wait to turn them back.

Safer, but doomed to failure if the intention is actually to get some medicine into Gaza.

Ramming a boat in international waters is against International Law. They did it once, they thought that it would not get a big notice, but it got on the news all over the world instead, mainly because in that boat there were also politicians and journalists inside. If there were only volunteers I am pretty positive that Dignity would be "lost" by now.

If they do anything similar now, with all the media attention on them, it will definately backfire on them a lot.... Except if they stage an "accident".

We will see.

Btw, has anyone yet produced even one still photo of the Israeli ship ramming the Dignity? There were photographers and journalists on board the Dignity.

Also:

Lubna Masarwa, a Free Gaza spokeswoman, said the boat had gone to Lebanon – despite Israeli navy orders that it sail to Cyprus – because of a lack of fuel.
http://chet-justice.blogspot.com/2008/12/israel-accused-of-ramming-gaza-aid-boat.html

So, the Israeli ship that rammed them and ordered them to sail to Cyprus, just sat and watched as the boat headed off to Lebanon instead?

The ramming was "carefull", they did ram the boat but not so bad in order to sink it.. Israel has nearly accepted it also, well they said that we had to act because they were not returning the radio signals, but they CANNOT ACT IN INTERNATIONAL WATER.. So they also said that it crashed "accidentally" to one of the israeli war ships... So how did they "act" then? Their statement is more confusing than helping them actually ...

I do not know of course how Dignity was allowed to go to Lebanon finally, there was NO possible way to return to Cyprus though because of not enough fuel... Israel are accused for ramming a boat in international waters, if they did insist of it to return back and the boat sunk, they would be accused of murder instead .... As I said Dignity could quite possibly be "lost" if politicians etc were not on board...

The ramming was "carefull", ...

So who's telling you all this?

Whoever it is, could you ask them for a picture of this careful ramming.

If it was careful, that means the navy ship was probably going pretty slow. That would give the journalists etc, more time to get their cameras out, get off the lens caps, maybe adjust the focus a little...

I don't have sound on this computer.

Does she explain why there are no photos or vid of the actual ramming, in spite of the presence of journalists, cameramen etc on board the Dignity?

She said the Israeli's rammed the boat three times, twice in the front and once at the side with apparently no warning. The Congresswoman also said that the Israeli's were putting out 'disinformation' on the incident.

That is

Did she explain why the journalists and cameramen didn't take any pictures of the event?

You know, like those pics of Greenpeace harassing the whaling ships?

A CNN journalist, who was on the vessel, said most people were suffering from violent sea sickness due to the rough sea. He explains that he went to get his camera, but at this point one of the crew stopped him to tell everyone to put on their life jackets. He expains more fully what happened here.

What is your fucking problem with these pictures, when the Israelis ADMIT to ramming the boat, although they claim by ‘accident’?

How would a picture prove it was an accident, as the Israelis claim, or deliberate as the independent and international media and aid workers claim?

And on those seas so rough that everyone was violently seasick, the navy vessel managed to 'carefully ram' the Dignity, to paraphrase Dimitris?

Also, how long does it take to put on a life jacket? Actually, I can answer that: no time at all. Then, hands are free to take photos. :)

I took photos on The Maid of The Mist, when the boat was in essence almost directly under Niagara Falls, and it was like being in the midst of a maelstrom.

Come on Johnny answer the question!

What is your point?
