Geez what uses that much electricity!!!

The electric water heater with a knackered thermostat probably didnt help (but that's broke all together now)
But that's our only fuel bill. Everything runs off elecy

Our gas and electricity bill has practically doubled in the last couple of years. Gas is just stupidly expensive these days, I'm afraid.

My tennents asked me to order an investigation of our meter to check it wasn't faulty due to their shock at such high bills.
It wasn't faulty and the bloke who came to do it said that electricity prices have risen 40% (yes, four- zero) in the past 10 months.
He added that that they were inundated at the moment with meter checks for customers and that everyone needs to get there head around it as it's not going down again.
Everyone really needs to seriously start thinking about their energy use - lights, standby functions and keeping the heating to room temp i.e 19º - 20º - I think for too long it's actually been pretty cheap and has made everyone somewhat blaise about using it responsibly.

we got a letter last night from BG saying "sorry, we upped your DD to £47 and we forgot to tell you"

fucking useless cunts

My parents are having trouble switching from EDF from British Gas - British Gas keep saying they haven't had the final reading from EDF so they can't issue the final bill and switch them over. EDF say they've passed it on four times, and when Dad phoned British Gas to give them the final reading directly they said they couldn't accept it from him, it had to come from EDF.

That's exactly the same dispute I'm having except t'other way round.

Tbh they're all useless, but British Gas are the most spectacularly incompetent of the lot.

I moved my gas from british gas to edf (who I already had electricity with). Had to ring up BG to give them the final metre reading and it seems to be going ok. Waiting on the final bill from them. fingers crossed and all that.

Have had a seriously reduced electricity bill as well. I'm not sure if it's because we've moved to dual fuel (as I'm not sure if that is sorted out yet) but we have elec quaterly. Last time was £112 but this one is £40! We've been turning everything off at the plugs (so no standby) and making other small changes. I'm a bit worried that there has been a mistake...

I switched to BG for my electricity (no gas at mine) and got that fixed price deal. They keep writing to me to say no matter what happens my prices won't be going up, but Im dubious... I have a pre-payment key, it's not like it's that easy for me to check, when it runs out I get more, end of. how the hell am I supposed to know if they're fuckign up??

I have the letter sitting on my desk waiting to call them and yell. We live in a studio, a freaking studio, and the bill has gone up from a ridiculous £25 per month to £35 per month. That's just for gas   We don't use any gas, I don't understand!

It's been the summer, so how can they argue our usage has increased?

oops. well i might as well say something now that the space is here. I read in London Lite tonight that rail prices are due to increase because electricity prices have gone up so much they're going to shift the costs to passengers.

I seem to have the opposite problem. When I first moved into this flat I set up the account with BG and they estimated that a DD payment of £18 per month should cover me.

Consistently this has been way way too high and my account was always in permanent surplus, so much so that I would get an annual refund of the surplus to the tune of about £80.

Now after two years they have realised I've been paying too much and have helpfully DROPPED my DD down to £10 per month - at the same time as jacking up the prices. Logic tells me that the increased prices will mean that my £18 payments are more realistic and will mean less of a surplus each year but BG don't seem to think along the same lines that I do.

They put our monthly DD up to almost £50 because when we switched, the first bill they sent me was for £150... which almost gave me a fucking heart attack.

I've kinda accepted we do use that much gas.. my husband insists on the heating being on the minute it gets a bit chilly
