a couple of decent tunes - monkeys and typewriters. or rather keyboards - don't justify a 30 year career of such appalling shite.

It's more than a couple. Unless you only like the usual Cars and Are Friends Electric. A lot of rubbish in there along the way but most artists working for that long have produced some stuff that should never have been.

Saw him on his latest mini tour in London and it was awesome, one of the best shows I have ever seen from Numan.

I saw him at Guilfest last year and he was brilliant:eek:

I've never been a fan and was expecting him to come on and do some electro-lite kind of stuff- oldies and suchlike. Instead he came on like some industrial rock god posing and snarling to a huge wall of sound and me and my mates all went  :D

ive only heard his late 70s/early 80s stuff..fun, silly good pop music but you cant take him seriously..like you might still do say with bowie(who yeah has done some real commercial cack rubbish "lets dance" anyone?) but well "heros" is "heros" and all can somewhat be forgiven with bowie as he was such an innovator..

IMHO gary numan is closer to say steve strange than bowie or ultravox..kraftwerk i wont even mention their name on the same page as numans:p

..i think sigmund has made a compelling case for him being an opportunist pure and simple..sure he is entertaining but nothing beyond that..

at the risk of seriously dating myself i saw him live in 81 in america..he had a big hit with "cars", yeah i agree he must of had serious backing cos some other english groups that had had big hits didnt seem to have the push he got..playing in a big theatre to a load of kids..at the time tho i enjoyed aspects of his music, i found his posing/pratty stage behavior hilarious, i couldnt stop LAUGHING at how IMPORTANT he thought he was driving around in his little car prop!it was sooooooo naff:D

i saw thru him as a young kid big time, all style and little substance;)
he had good stage sets tho..a big knots and crosses(or tic tac toe as we yanks call it)
scaffolding rig with coloured lights and different musicians at different levels/corners of the rig..i loved that..thought it looked very "futuristic"

...i met klaus nomi at the numan gig and i found his music( i was lucky enough to get to hear it, he didnt have big management or anything)to be a lot more individualistic

as far as the tory thing..burn the witch!
i think paul weller only voted for thatch in 79 and then quickly realised his mistake and taked to the press about it..this is very very different to admiring her and attending tory party conferences..ill try to keep an open mind about his current political beliefs as well i dont know what they are..based on the stories posted about him on here he does seem like a real asshole:(

i havent heard his current stuff..i cant bring myself to check it out either..i do like some industrial stuff but somehow i doubt it sounds like einsterzende neubaten
