brixtonvilla
should be Oslovilla, really
Nothing to substantiate it no! Heard it on BBC radio...probably Monday night if I recall correctly from a journo. It does seem to fit though as I remember Barry was in a bit of limbo a couple of years back...the Villa fans loved him but he never really seemed to have a settled place in the team. I remember he was seemingly playing centre back one week, then left mid, then left back then centre mid etc! Didn't his first England cap come under Hoddle at either left back or the left side of a back 3? Time has addled my mind!
It could be that MON said he wouldn't stand in the way of a big move...these things happen in football. And if the offer is of the value as has been reported then it's certainly comparable to the Carrick/Hargreaves fees recently paid for similar type players (positionally speaking!).
Fair enough. It just doesn't seem to fit with what I know of MO'N's man-management. He seems more set on building of team of loyal, hungry players than people hanging around for the next "big" club to take an interest. MO'N's position seems to be to let a unhappy player go, but not at any price, which is fair enough IMO.
I'm not sure if Barry's ever been in limbo, per se - he's certainly moved around a lot, from left-sided central defender in a back 3 under John Gregory, to left-back, to left midfield to central midfield. Wherever he's been, he's been a vital part of the Villa team over the last 10 years or so, and scored the best goal I've ever seen at Villa Park (a 25-30 yard equalizer against Spurs a season or two ago). I'd never say (as the OP did) that he's ever been the weak link in our side. Looks like he might be playing in Claret & Blue next season anyway, unless Liverpool/Arsenal pony up the cash pretty fast...
