Gangs of New York-Leo D Caprio

and the accusation that ignored the irish settlers racism completely was wrong - the "there's a nigger in the church" scene for example suggest otherwise.

That scene is exactly the sort of thing I mean by sanitising the record of Irish-American racism!

. He has also taken to stalking me around the boards. Perhaps I should pm you with this...or not?
That's as maybe, but in this thread you kicked it off with an unprovoked personal attack.

Can't you both put each other on ignore? Please? Pretty please?
With knobs on?

Ignoring him is pointless. I've already tried that. It only encourages him.

I thought the film looked great visually but it lacked focus and sanitised (I repeat myself) certain aspects of history.

One thing that it brought to home was the corruption and criminality that accompanied the birth of the US. In many respects, this criminality is extant in today's politics.

Seems like i'm the only person who thought this film was quite good :(

I thought it was quite good too. It could have improved in certain areas, obviously, but overall I liked it.

That may be the case but much of this has been expunged from US history books. Another thing that was glossed over was the American Party (better known as the "Know Nothings"). It was only touched upon by Day-Lewis' character but not actualy mentioned by name.

Nah - I quite enjoyed it too. But then I did sneak an afternoon off work to go see it on my own at the Prince Charles so maybe that's why ;)

It is pretty rubbish in many ways - particularly Leo DC and Ms Diaz - but Daniel Day Lewis is like some sort of visceral life-force in it. I found him so compelling to watch that I was prepared to forgive all the less good stuff.

I can't belive that I watched the film to end. :o
Same here. I watched it in bed much to the Good Lady Wife's inconvenience.

It wasn't worth the hassle at all.

I thought daniel day lewis was pants
where did he get that accent from? Abyssmal
I walked out of the film when it came out as dd lewis hamming it up was just painful to watch, then that fight scene with the bizzare rock soundtrack, what was all that about?
It must have got better after the first 20 minutes because it was almost too awful to describe
IMO
