Galloway spreads homophobic lies

I am not convinced that he has turned into an outright anti-gay politician. We shall see. All evidence gratefully received. In the meantime, I shall continue to see him as a wretchedly Islamophile politician, but one who nevertheless has maintained a civilised view of homosexuals.
I like that his "Islamophilia" is a bigger problem for you than his apologism for the murder of gay people.

Why does nwm hate muslims all of a sudden? Why does he echo the far right?

coming from you thats amusing... Don't hate muslims, not fussed on Galloway. Have read Galloway conversion story elsewhere sometime ago - but can't find link. Usually hedges his bets in press interviews when directly asked. Most common phrase "that is a matter for me and my god" (that one came from a bbc translation from an Arabic newspaper, but the link in my bookmark no longer works. It was in 2006 I think)

It was posted on the UKLN at the same time as on here back in 2006.

Same 'joke', same guy.

I do hope it hasn't coloured many of your political beliefs and decisions over the past 2 years.

Why is that amusing to you, coming from me?

I see you're the master of comedic subtley from this thread and the heightened sense of the possibilities and limits of the the jocular what you have been displaying.

The thing is, In Bloom, I'm really not sure what he has said.

Assuming for the sake of argument that you are right, i.e., that he has turned into an apologist for the Iranian regime's persecution and execution of gay people, I'd call that an aspect of his Islamophilia. It would also be a bit of a shift from previously expressed views on homosexuals. (It is possible, as I suggested on another thread about all this, that the tension between his Islamophilia and his civilised view of homosexuality has finally been resolved in favour of the former.)

In fact, for the moment, I'm not sure what his position is. It may be as you say or it may be like the position of one or two Trots who post here (Spion for one) - not support for the Iranian regime's anti-gay doings, but a really daft idea that the only reason the asylum case has been in the press and the only reason people talk about the killing of gay people is that some people favour a US bombing of Iran. The daft Trots - and maybe the GG - think that it's all pro-bombing propaganda (even though they acknowledge the execution of gay men goes on).

Galloway does have a decent record on gay rights. But on more than one occasion he has blundered into make stupid remarks about gay people. There is plenty of evidence for this. Had a Tory uttered, perhaps in a different context, similar remarks he or she would be crucified. I don't think George is homophobic, but he should be taken to the cleaners for the remarks he made on the Wright Show/demo.

George's stupidity lies less in his Islamophilia than in his Stalinism. He sees the
world divided into two camps - the evil imperialists versus the rest. It follows for him that when the rest are faced with a conflict with the imperialists, one must not criticise the former. This is why he acts as an apologist for Iran. Not out of any love for the Iranian version of Shia Islam, but because of his two campist view of the world. When push comes to shove he will always take the Stalinist line rather than the Muslim postion eg Kosovo.

I think this is the nub of it, Galloway substitutes the ruling class of certain countries for the the working class of all countries. Not unlike the SWP in this regard, despite their newfound dislike of communitarianism.

Just like people who think that class struggle in Northern Ireland must wait until the North is no longer ruled from London, or people who think that anti-racist struggle has to wait until we've ridden ourselves of class, Galloway seems to think that gays should just put up with being oppressed by the Iranian government until the theoretical risk of invasion by the nasty, imperialist West is out of the way. Even if he doesn't personally hate gay people, this speaks volumes for his priorities.

I've had arguments with Swappies in the past who've made exactly that argument regarding the murder of gay people by relgious fundamentalists in Iraq.

You mean 'communalism', not 'communitarianism', don't you?

Was that a response to me?

Presumably you still think it's okay for SWP members to belong to a church and to be against abortion? (I can think of at least one current member of the SWP who holds these views.)

that has to be the worst attempt at a derail ever witnessed on these boards <"my god! Someones dissing the galloway! I must turn it into an SWP bashing thread">. You have become as obsessed with the SWP as JHE is with muslims. Perhaps you could team up and do a double act. If you learnt to set fire to farts as well, you could be the U75 answer to dumb and dumber;)

Just pointing out your double standards. "my god" being a very appropriate phrase - the SWP allows muslims and christians into membership, why should it worry if they want to follow their faith rather than the party line?

Shocking - why don't you write a satirical book about it? oops too late Tariq Ali's already done one....

Still the worst attempt at a derail I've seen though:p

nothing would derail a thread as comprehensively as muppets quoting april fool spoofs to try and back their ridiculous sectarian attacks on former 'comrades' surely .

An Easter Message from Father George. From the Daily Record.

Don't Put A Bet On Des's Conscience
Mar 24 2008 George Galloway

HAPPY Easter, Christ is risen. Not that you'd know it in this Godless country presided over by a son of the manse.

Apparently oblivious to the soldiers gambling on Golgotha at the foot of the cross as Jesus died and Our Lady wept, bookies were allowed to open on Good Friday for the first time in our history.

Gambling has now been unleashed with full state approval. Indeed when the state become a croupier in the National Lottery, only me, Pastor Ian Paisley and a few others opposed it.

And the proposals in the Embryo Research Bill before the House imminently blasphemes against the very idea of God.

The Bill contains the literally monstrous idea to allow boffins to insert human DNA into animal eggs creating hybrid human-animal embryos. This Frankenstinian proposal allegedly has some Christian ministers parading their double standard consciences, pretending they are agonising between their principles and their ministerial Montegos.

One such is Des Browne, whom you may not know is a Scottish MP and part-time Defence Secretary.

Des's conscience has allowed him to make illegal war in Iraq in defiance of his Pope, not to mention the UN, international law, the views of his Kilmarnock constituents and the millions of anti-war marchers, but he might draw the line at making a pig's ear in a laboratory.

Well, might is the operative word.

Given it's Easter under New Labour - so the bookies must be open - I'd stick a few quid on the outcome of a wrestling match between Des's conscience and his limousine.

My money is on the conscience getting a .202 round to the head.
