gagging for gin

Also I do like gin to be very junipery, although I will try other gins, I always come back to something with strong juniper flavours - that is what it is about for me.

Tried a parma violet gin liqueur recently, all I can say is that it is "interesting". I had to try it though, I love parma violets. Although not so much in this format :D

One thing I just remembered about Silent Pool Distillery is that early on in the COVID crisis they turned over some of their production line and alcohol to make hand sanitiser which they provided free to locals including donations to charities and healthcare workers.

Depends how much you want to spend but this is lovely (and comes in a beautiful bottle and supports employment/social projects in a remote area) :).

I think I've tried that or another Scottish gin - it was nice and a nice bottle.

I tried a bottle of Brooklyn gin which was very junipery - too much for me really, but you might like it.

I ran out of gin the other week & had to buy from my nearest shop & they had Plymouth gin for £16 for 70cl & saw it in Sainsbury’s for £26 so I popped back & bought another bottle.

I started drinking gin about 10 years ago after walking up Snowden in biblical rain to scatter a friends ashes. I carried a bottle of gin, tonic, cups, lemon & a knife to toast her at the top as it was her drink & fell in love with it. Nothing will ever beat that G&T though & the sunshine on the walk down.

One of my favourite drinks is gin and Dubonnet.

I part gin, 2 parts Dubonnet, ice.

In fact, I think I'll have another. I haven't had booze for a while, and all this gin talk has set me off. :)

We have that, a queenie, as it's her drink, I think her mum had it at a 50/50 ratio, that's good too.

I'm still off the booze, but heads up . . . It's gin week at Lidl starting today.
My wife likes the Scottish gins and they have a reasonably priced one at £22

Thanks for the tip! Their Hortus gin is quite well respected and tbh even their cheap budget one is not bad for the price.

Yes I think Hortus is pretty good, especially when they do the spiced one. The other flavors never impressed me. I didn't really like the cheaper lidl gin, but it tasted no worse than other standard level gins that cost twice the price.
I'll grab the wife the scots one and the orange. Citrus gins seem to work for me (though I have never tried orange zest).

I heartily recommend Old Bakery Gin for "special".

Goes especially well with Merchant's Heart Pink Peppercorn tonic which you can get in nice little glass bottles which works better as a gift than cans (they do other flavours like Hibiscus too, so you could get a selection, they aren't overwhelmingly expensive and big Sainsbury's or online sell those).

The gin itself is eyewateringly expensive but OH bought me a 35cl bottle with a selection of the tonics that I have mentioned in a gift bag for Xmas and I love the stuff, best gin I ever tasted. (It is also fairly local, if that matters to you or the recipient)

I think he would have got it from Borough Market as he was working there at the time.

EDIT: Because I got the name of the tonic I suggested wrong, had to go into the kitchen to check!
The gin arrived today. Very impressed with Boozehut. They added 5 bottles of fancy mixers and a hand-written note.

It's sort of French vermouth but better.
Adding fortified wine to gin as a mixer doesn't sound sensible, unless you want to get completely smashed in short order. :hmm:

If it tastes like vermouth I'd probably hate it - can't stomach anything that we used to drink in the local park when I was 15 or so, which included bottles of that because it was quite cheap and had plenty of alcohol.

Vermouth is very much a mixer in the traditional Italian bitters way. The white one being for martinis. Dubonnet is thicker and stronger and only red (sweet), when mixed 1:1 with gin like the queen mother did its a strong ol' drink.

I don't much like gin but this cheers it up a lot.

Have tried so many (worked in the industry) and they all blend into one after a while.

I really enjoyed this

Do prefer gin to just be gin personally. You can always add bitters or fruit if needed. This one is my go to bottle

I once attended a global Spirits awards judging panel. At the after drinks (there were a lot) the general feeling from the judging panel was that original London Beefeater Dry Gin is still the best.
Martin Millers is cracking and I usually only get it in for Xmas/ Summer hols, accompanied by Fever Tree Mediterranean.

I didn't like that one - the lemons tasted really artificial so it put me right off. :(
