We are all Black Bloc now

Haha I'm not Black Bloc I had a mulitcoloured hoody on  But there's still Italy in 2009 ;)

BTW We were told on the saturday night (in Heiligendamm surrounded by police :D) that the guys in black are just the new types of uniform, and that soon all German Police are getting black and the green is being phazed out. Anyone know which one's true, 'cos I got told they were snatch squads previously?

Really good to hear the blockades are going well! :)

What did the locals think? Did you try to get them involved?

My friend is from Berlin, I think the people in the area are pissed off that they chose this area to have the G8 ib tbh

One of the local rags had 'Never Again Rostock' on the front, and a picture of a guy waving the black flag, it seems the governement held something which attracted protestors 15 years ago and it all went tits up then.

There was a lot of Germans there, from all over the country and the area itself is strongly left-wing so they seemed to support it.

Is that what you meant?

Yeah, cheers. You only here about the protestors (from all over), and the police. I was wondering if the people of Rostock had got involved too.

Is that all you can say?

I thought I left the clowns in Rostock

Well since you're so versed on anarchism perhaps you could answer me some questions.

What sort of conception of human nature is anarchism based upon? Would their be less incentive to work in a society that is egalitarian? Or was it like you say, "cool". So "cool" you can only empathise how "cool" it was with a series of emoticons.

I suspect your one of the many who go along to be "cool". I can't see any sign of intelligence in your posts.

What makes you think I think I'm 'well versed on anarchism' or that I'm even an anarchist? Seeing as you say

I presume you've read all my post on this website?

*yawns*

The elephant trap always works on fools. You are just another idiot who was there because it was cool. And judging by some of the threads you have started, short on brains too.

Well the protest was given use of an old school by the local community, and I stayed there saturday, it's being used as a central point with internet a big kitchen food workshops and things, a bit like a social centre, it's huge!!

Also all the camps were given by local private land owners and the 4th camp that we wanted to set up was going to be given by a local priest! It seems a lot of people supported the cause yeh, although not being able to speak German myself it was difficult to know who was from nearby and who was from West Germany :o  :)

I think if you go to something like this (which I initially went to because my friend were setting up an 'art and music camp' ) and that has any effect on you and your politcial views and how interested you about the rest of the world then that can only be a good thing.

At one of the camps on sunday I was stood next to a friends van when two guys walked past and one of them said 'The English don't give a shit about politics' (they weren't English/British) and obviously didn't know I was English. So I called after them saying ' we don't give a shit about politics? why are we here then?' The guy didn't know what to say I'm sure I saw him go a bit pink though ;)

There wasn't a great deal of Brits out there though...:(

Apathy was a word featured strongly when I talked about the UK to people.

8 posts and you're being this nice!? Wow, you'll do well here!:D

i read about this the other day, and wasn't blown away. i am no authority on such things (:p), but just you know didn't think much of it. that the rm union strike seemed slightly more impressive, which is a shame considering that these must have been the cream of international activism :D

Can someone give me a good inside account of it this year, it used to be quite difficult to get information when I was in China, and would get around it by using forums.

Is libcom still going?

They didn't have a clue who I was?

They don't need too, Zenie.

I have been living in a information blackhole called rural China and I have broadband again for the first time in years. I wish to make the most of it :)

As I write this I see that Kazuma is banned but still has the green light on showing he is still online. He just doesn't know it yet.:D

An interesting point about the camps, the "black block" dominated camp now is Reddlich and it is the cleanest, tidiest, most smoothly run activist camp I've ever been in. The neighbours are really friendly and wander in and out, and are selling meat based food!

Your're right there aren't loads of us brits here and I'm surprised I didn't see you at the convergence centre on saturday...(we have met before;) )

Did you see the box that said 'free meat' on it at the centre in the food hall? Someone had written 'don't eat the pigs' on it? :D

will pm you ;)

hehehe. anyway, ime it's like, geing involved in political activity can really change you and your values.

but, and this is the point i'm asking, is dressing in black and fighting with the police really likely to create a crowd of politically useful individuals. yeah, i think that it could shift one towards the "principle of anarchy" "beloved" of left wing academics. but yeah, i just don't get if thats worth much at all.

what new powers does he black bloc give you? something about knowing the enemy. well, ime a useful political individual does not have to know their enemies, just who are their friends :D

Yeh I totally agree with you, I'm on a bit of a high from coming back of course but the dedication that the euro-activists showed really inspired me. I'm young and I guess it can't be bad at all to get young people inspired and involved in politics ey?

I'm not in the black bloc, and I'll admit when we first met some of them, I was saying how I wasn't surprised the police gave them a lot of shit. I dont doubt that a lot of them are mates who get together and like a ruck, who use the anonymity and the excuse of 'figthing for anarchy' to just be violent and smash stuff up.

A largely meaningless mishmash of strange asserstions and misunderstandings that I will partially attempt to respond to.

Most people involved in black block tactics are already politically useful often as I have pointed out above (or in another thread). If they are not then black block itself may or may not have a postive influence on their political development, but that is pretty irrelevent. When it works it is very empowering for the individuals involved though.

I am not however going to fetishise what is afterall just a tactic - there are forms of political action which I find more empowering, the wildcat strike at work for instance, but that doesn't invalidate or marginalise other tactics.
