G20 and urban75: please *think* before you post

With an armoury of knee jerk legislation in place making it easy to seize servers on what appears to be quite flimsy grounds, posters are stronly reminded to think before they post (a rare concept for some, I grant you).

.

While my thread on the subject of petrol bombs was intended to be taken about as seriously as Ken Livingstone face down and stark naked with a daisy up his arse, I can see Ed's point about the server thing.

UK laws do seen to have gone a bit daft over the last few years and I would really hate to see this forum lost.
Much as I tend to disagree with many of the posters on here I like this forum as it always makes me question my beliefs and ideas.

It would be a great pity if it was destroyed by removal of the servers when over active plod using fucking silly terror laws happened on a dodgy post or three.:)

By the way, Mr Livingstone's daisy would be flower end in the sunlight.:D

With the press wanking itself off into daily frenzied "OMG!! RIOT!!!!" orgasms every day and the police hell bent on being seen to clamp down hard on the evil, trrsm-supportin' rioting protesters, you can expect these boards to be well perused by the Plod right now.

Various news stories are going on about how the police are convinced that the old guard of road protesters/Reclaim the Streets/J18-ers (that'll be us) are supposedly mustard keen to re-enact the Battle of the Somme on the streets of London during G20, so please don't give them any ammo.

Anyone posting up material that is clearly inciting illegal acts can expect their posts to disappear and a ban to swiftly follow if they continue.

It shouldn't be this way, but such is the current legal climate, we have to be very careful.

Wise words, and sad about a climate where should need to be said. But is the idea that the state might monitor political activists with a view to censoring them a conspiracy theory?

nope. i'd say it was simply a legal statement to absolve the owner of this site from any responsibility for anything that might happen, precisely because we have so many wise words being spewed. tbf,

Please start a new thread if you want to bang on about a new - and as yet evidence-free - conspiracy theory.

I'll leave it there, dont want to waste any more of your time. But I only wish it was "evidence free". the percieved (correct IMO) need to start this thread is evidence in itself.

Anyway, the state doesn't need to spend any money monitoring to make the warning hold.

One urban75 poster has boasted of getting cops to seize a server after material he didn't approve of was posted on it.

Indymedia has had servers seized. Editor has said that u75 has almost had them siezed before now. People are being told to not incite illegal acts. No *theory* involved, just some facts and a sensible request/warning.

I'm surprised that kind of crap doesn't happen more often to be honest...

who was that?

hope that wasn't the indymedia server, and if it was then I hope they got booted from here for their troubles...?

Congratulations. That piece of piss weak trolling has earned you a 24hr ban for disruptive behaviour.

Why?

Interesting that it's purely based on the whim of a single individual.

Where's the appeal process - even the Gulags had one of those.

Your post was abusive, disruptive and hell bent on disrupting debate and as such fell foul of the posting policy here, although perhaps it could best be described as coming under the "don't be a prick" rule.

Oh, and all the mods fully supported the decision.

What in it was "abusive"?

I'm sorry if not following the party line (as perceived by one group of polarised individuals) is deemed to be "disruptive".

I suppose that's all we have to look forward to from the new order (should they ever find any people to support then far enough to the polls)......

What party line? More to the point what party?

Does this sort of thing ever get them any useful evidence? I would have thought that anyone capable enough to be worth prosecuting wouldn't make the mistake of posting inflammatory stuff from their own broadband account.

Ain't about evidence, it's about harassment. This would certainly seem to be the case with stuff like the various indymedia seizures, couldn't comment on earlier cases involving this website I'm sure.

You described all protesters as "worthless scum" on a thread discussing the potential G20 legal ramifications for urban75 posters.

So, off topic, disruptive and abusive. Oh, and inaccurate and pathetically childish.

Mobile Phones

Hypothetically
Would changing sim card make any difference.
Better leaving phone @ home?:rolleyes::cool:

Two separate parts of a mobile can be identified: the SIM and the handset (via it's IMEI number).

You can get a Tesco PAYG phone for about £13 (cash), if you are concerned (for example) that you might break/lose your nice expensive phone.

As I recall, you stated that there was a perception in the press that protestors are worthless scum. I merely validated that.

It's called holding an opinion.......

Stop disrupting this thread with your off-topic drivel please. If you have a complaint about the moderating, kindly start a thread in the appropriate forum.

They will be going up against the scum of our society, the immature thrill seekers and anonymous cowards who hide in large crowds with scarves pulled over their faces chanting meaningless slogans to hurl whatever is at hand at the lines of Police deployed to maintain order.

These foolish silly people believe that smashing windows, kicking cops and waving banners is a means to change society but they are no more than ‘the Mob’ which London has experienced over the ages as has many other major cities.

So boys and girls, keep your chin straps tight, your batons ready and shields high.

quote from above links...

"Bring on the G20!

If I'm lucky, I'll be deployed down there with my big gun and my bank will like me putting in the money earned while I'm down there....."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good luck to everyone whos down there tommorow. gutted i cant be there this time.

The Evil Standard and the freesheets and the Times are all reading u75, I swear, so far I have seen the 'square up to the Square Mile' map, and the police forums all mentioned and quoted, 24 hours after they appeared on here in various threads.

Are you watching IPs Ed?

How would "watching IPs" tell you anything? They are not labelled "The Times", nor are journalists banned from reading u75. I don't even see why you see journalists reading u75 as a bad thing. It's a compliment if anything.

eta: A reprint of the old J18 'squaring up to the square mile' has been put up on indymedia, so there i no reason to think that journalists found out from here specifically is there?

There's a ton of journos on here. I haven't a problem with that - at least they're bothering to research the topic - although it pisses me off when they don't bother crediting their sources.
