about four doors north
But there's beedn a pound shop on that side of the street for years hasn't there? I'm a bit confused.
So that site is to be a new pound shop. Well its the kind of thing that does well in a downturn.
And for those who miss the late lamented Robill's, I can recommend the shop opposite the public lavatories in Pope's Road - I've never noticed its name.
Have you not been to Brixton for a while now?
I have not found that to be the case.Though I never allow myself to go down the biscuit aisle in the likes of Tescos on the rare occasion I go there.
Thinking about it that's a good thing. I can devour a box of teacakes in minutes.![]()
I go there virtually every day, but I use the tube, woolies, go to the Albert and that's about it. It just shows how unobservant I am.

waitrose! they do the dark chocolate ones and snowballs too.
Brixton has a Curry's?
How have I not noticed this?
I need some new consumer durables.

there's a waitrose in Balham that used to be a safeway, its an easy bike ride from Brixton!

It's worth going just to see quite how badly a shop can be run.![]()

You probably don't walk past it. It's (kinda) opposite St. Matthews Church up towards Brockwell Park.![]()

There is a pound shop type thing along the road on the same side but it was burnt out a few weeks back.
Literally tens of pounds worth of damage was done. So we need a new one. Of course, I'd prefer it if an organic butchers and grocers replaced it. One that's open to 10pm 7 days a week. Of course.

I am hoping that Curry's closes down and they open an Aldi in its place.

But there's a recession due. We can't afford organic![]()

Meanwhile, in Herne Hill, they have lost a chicken-snack-shack and gained a posh fish stall, they have a posh bakery, and a posh deli, as well as a posh florist. And the posh second-hand-french furniture store that used to be in Coldharbour Lane has moved there too.
The gentry has moved to Herne Hill.
Isn't the chicken snack shack still there? The fish stall replaced Kennedy's afaik. To be fair, there are loads of shops in HH that have been there for years, for example the proper, old-fashioned cobbler, the hardware shop etc.
The guy who runs the second-hand furniture shop (who is very nice) told hendo that "they" had made it impossible for him to trade in Coldharbour Lane. He didn't specify who "they" were but you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to guess.

The mad old lady in the hardware shop still keeps going. Someone I knew once tried to buy something in the middle of the afternoon. He had to bang on the window to get her to let him in because she'd forgotten to unlock the door.God knows how she stays open.
