Steepness  (edit: actually may not technically be a funicular - do you need two cars counterbalancing each other?)

The one in the Blue mountains is absurdly steep in places. standing is not an option.

Oh I've been on that one. You've just reminded of my day out. One of the few that I didn't have rain :)

    Jeez!

I think the one at Lynton/Lynmouth is the only one I've been on.

Apparently Scarborough had five at one point. Now there's just three, but one has been out of use for some time.

Genova has three, one of which may strictly be a cog-wheel railway.

I seem to regularly go on holiday to places with funiculars. I've been in the Bergen, Prague, Montmartre, Turin and Saltburn ones, and also this splendid one in Como.

    Geri wasn't born to follow

I've been on the two in Barcelona.

I don't much like the fact that they appear to run on two pulley ropes. I worried the whole time about one of them snapping and the whole thing plummeting to the ground.

I have no pictures to add, but I love the thread. There's something inexplicably captivating and charming about them.

I'm damn sure I've been on at least one, but I'm totally stumped where it/they was/were. Childhood holidays mainly spent in North Wales, with the occasional one camping in the Dordogne...
