The freeholder lives upstairs and I'm wondering whether they might be obliged in any way to contribute to the cost of fixing certain structural issues, although I can see it might be an issue making them cough up. We're told by the vendor he's very easy to deal with, at least. They extended the leasehold with him a few years back for not very much money and he was cool with that.
Hmm... You are still obliged to contribute toward the maintenance of the roof and exterior of the property. If there isn't enough in the maintenance fund then you will have to cough up extra.
Also if the freeholder is resident in one part of the property it means you will be unlikely to ever be able to buy the freehold.
