Fucking big bastard Brixton spiders

Well, I doubt that he'll be totally serious, but I have a feeling BA would love winding me up about it if I asked him to remove one, as he appeared to enjoy winding me up about the afforementioned fuse thing! And its also a thing I have about hating to ask men to do things like that for me as it does make me feel like such a stereotypical girl! But guess it does affect men as well (assuming Shanksy that you're a bloke being 6'2").

And yes, I have used that term before, was something related to not hitting back if a bloke hit me and probably crying instead. That was something like my first week of posting. You've got a good memory!

(note to self, must not repeat self on threads, people are watching....)

Ok, my sympathy is slipping with the fuse thing. :D *shakes head muttering about drills and putting shelves up*

And no, not watching just made me laugh a second time too...maybe you should change 'registered user to 'Crap Feminist' instead?:)

yeah i am, read somewhere that what your intimidated by depends on your parents. Say if you were a nipper and your mother showed fear arround spiders then you grow up being scared of them too. Well thats my excuse anyway

I had the dubious benefit of growing up in what used to be a fairly agrarian area of Essex so if bugs freaked you out you generally spent the whole summer a quivering wreck, which was SO not a good look...

As I said, A FUSE HASN'T BLOWN ON ME IN 7 YEARS!! Is it my fault I've never had to change one? ;)

And (oh god, I really don't want to have to say this), I'm not quite sure how to change "registered user"..... Is that a tag and do I use the icon next to the speach bubble?

Surely that should say "You can't afford NOT to be arachnophobic in Australia."

Nah. If you were you'd never go out and be scared to stay in. Believe me.

but why a fear of spiders? which as I've said, generally aren't poisonous and those which are tend to have those bright colours anyway.

actually none of the dangerous spiders in Oz are bright coloured, except perhaps the redback which has a red stripe on it's back (go figure?) but the spider is small and the stripe on it's back is really small, so, you have to poke it with your nose just to see if it's dangerous or not.
I just find it difficult to believe that we wouldn't have in built senses that help protect us from things that may hurt us.

You are making a point that a lot of people would agree with. However, one of the counter-arguments with that is if a spider phobia is genetically hard-wired then everyone, or at least the vast majority of the population, would be spider phobic which isn’t the case.

The fight and flight response is hard-wired but it would make more sense considering individual differences that the object to which that fear becomes focused is determined by learning and society.
