every time i flicked it on its just been repeats of only fools and horses and biographies of random celebrities i don't care about.

Hmm, just having a quick look at what's on right now.

There are 26 documentaries, 15 news/politics programmes, 20 odd films, around 30 music shows and 25 sports, in addition to the 100 or so 'entertainment and lifestyle' channels that you care so little for.

Surely even a dullard like you could find something of interest in that lot? If not there are also 30 childrens channels.

I always found that with sky/cable/whatever that I end up endlessly channel hopping looking for something better. 'ooh a documentary about the Nazis! just check what's on nicelodeon....hmm catdog. Just check Sci Fi channel. Awesome! swamp thing. Just check sky 1 for Stargate re-runs....'etc ad nauseum

I sure am.
I scrapped sky years ago when the movie channels went to 10 quid a month. I refused to pay the licence fee for the crap that was on terrestrial so I had no TV for years.
It's a better life than paying silly a month for the pile of crap that is sky.
I do have a TV here but it's my wife that watches the most of it. I see the odd news program but that's it.
No licence fee and the satellite is free once you pay your 60 quid for the gear.

Very true. No terrestrial signal, no mobile phone signal. I did the first 4 months here with no tv and then the prospect of christmas with my mother and no tv loomed large so I signed up for sky. It's not ideal and it's quite expensive but I like the movies and the documentaries and I like anytime tv because you get odd freebies from sky arts

Not smug, just an opinion. To me it's daft to pay so much money to watch repeats. I can get the DVDs cheaper and watch them whenever I want. get a bigger selection as well.
Try timing the ad breaks on such as Sky 1. It works out at about 20 minutes in every hour. That's crap but it's up to you really if you are willing to pay for it.

I remain of the opinion that it's a total waste of money.
