your team under peformed, thats it end of story. Stop blaming a 20 year old boy for the whole teams misfortunes. neither of those teams were going to score lastnight, and rooney never missed the penalties.
I agree.

I think it was a really stupid tactical decision to have Rooney as a 'Lone Ranger' striker up front by himself. And when Rooney came off, and Crouch came on, it was even more obvious that the team were playing too defensively. A couple of times that Crouch was up front, but there wasn't anyone around for him to pass too, the tv commentators said: "But where's the support," and it was true.

England had their defence under control all through the tournament (but then they'd need to with Robinson  ), but you don't win games by not conceding goals, you win games by scoring them.

They really didn't have enough strikers up front to capitalise on any opportunities. It happened again and again.

Did anyone else get the same feeling as Rooney pushed Ronaldo as the main characters in Snatch did when Pitts character, who promised to throw the fight, cained the guy in one punch?

Sort of like the thought 'We're fucked' racing down your synapses, only to run into the door at the end of the neurological corridor cos it hadn't had enough time to open?

Not seen Snatch, but felt like that - exactly like I felt when Beckham did something similarly stupid against Argentina in '98. England played better with 10 men then too ...

I agree. The tactics were to blame in this instance...

Seems to me that there are two seperate issues here.

1) Rooney is a very talented football player. Thats obvious, and hasn't changed because of this World Cup.

2) Rooney is an immature, petulant, violent wanker. Thats also been obvious for some time.

The problem is that his behaviour, up until now, has been excused due to his talent. Which is exactly the course of action that has led to disaster with other footballing prodigies. We don't learn!

If he'd not been sent off, we'd have won, IMO.

Let's hope this is the end of the nation's obsession with the over-rated cunt.

My mate said before the game, if Rooney stays on the pitch we'll win. I think he'd have been right, but he was also so right about the proviso (ie the chances of Rooney being wound up and lashing out were fairly high against these wankers).

I was a cunt when I was twenty though, so I can't be too hard on the fellow.

I thought England were much better after Rooney went off and they were down to 10 men. Too much was asked of him. If they had played 4-4-2 with him and Crouch up front they would have won yesterday. Portugal were poor.

Agreeing with this :( :(

Me too (agree that is)...missed oppertunities throughout the WC. The lack of strikers being at the heart of it, why should the team have to overhaul the game plan because Owen got injured? Not having Defoe or Bent there was a blunder of the highest order.....thank fuck Sven's gone....
