fry ups

Double egg, chips and beans is a great way to start the day! Especially if you're going to be doing strenuous exercise later on, like reading the Sunday Mirror or watching Antiques Roadshow - it really sets you up.

However, my ideal fry-up consists of: 2 poached eggs (fried if poaching skills not available), two veggie sausages, beans, grilled or fried tomato (NOT tinned ), hash browns, HP sauce, toast, loads of tea.

Roadkill: you have fried bread and toast? And have you been going to the Valley caff?

I'll have everything you lot are having (except chips and tinned toms and I like my egg poached) but with the addition of a lambs kidney please.

As much as I love proper food, I have a real weakness for these things.

Sorry. Everyone has flaws.

after the last thread i ate one of those ^^ just to see wether it was as crappy as i remembered and i found it was actually worse, crispy on the outside maybe but a kind of mixture of semi raw potatoish lumpy bits and spunk on the inside, maybe if i was starving and had a greater amount of tommyk than hash brown i might eat one again

im sure real usa ones are nice tho :)

had a lovely fry up on sunday morning, scrambled eggs, black pudding, crispy bacon, toast, tea - set me up for the day:)

obviously not cooked properly!!!

For every one of those hash browns a poodle is wanked and a nose blown.

You don't really think they'd waste a potato for that weird smeggy filling do you?

:(

For those of you of seeking a more spicy breakfast, you can't beat a bit of proper West Indian black pudding (made with rice rather than grain and with plenty of chilli) and some fried plantain on the side. Serve with all the usual other fry up ingredients, and perhaps some garlic pork if it's a special occasion.

Cumberland sausage? That is a big sausage for brekkie!

I thought a good quality pork sausage or even a chipolata was more traditional.

what can i say? they are a fave :) a good quality pork sausage will do but no chipolatas.

a good cafe is a place hard to come by, i agree :)

There's not enough veggie options on this thread

Personally, Cauldron Cumberland sausages, bubble & squeak with loads of black mustard seeds and fried onions, HP beans, leftover frittata or cheese omlette. I've got a good recipe for vegan black pudding too (believe it or not), although it tastes more like haggis.

Cup of tea strong enough to stand your spoon upright in.

Thick white bread (Hovis crusty used to be great but they seem to have stopped doing it :( )

This isn't a thread for vegetarians to be fair. A fry up without bacon is like a triple jumper with only one leg. The less said about veggie bacon the better really.

And veggie sausages, even ones as good as cauldron, lack that combination of sticky crispiness that comes from a fat, slowly cooked banger.

In a shit café with dodgy meat, the a veggie fry up's often a decent option. If you're cooking at home, there's no comparison.

No-one specified at any point that this was a meat-eaters only thread. Sorry if I stepped out of line.

And no-one's suggesting that you can't make your point. No of my toes trod on at all. May I just point out that you're the one who came in accusing the thread of not having enough veggie options, complete with with an angry face...

But bacon's synonymous with a fry up for many of us. Which is kinda the point I was making.

And you suggested frittata for christsakes. What sort of brunchy foreign nonsense is that. It's even slowly fried, which is clear convention of the Geneva frying pan convention for breakfasts...

 ;)

Oh, I see!

So famous piggies are safe, unknown piggies are fit for nothing more than your frying pan!

Pig killer!!!!

You HAVE to have:

tinned chopped tomatoes mixed with a little bit of vinegar, worcestershire sauce and bisto

on it as well.. learnt that from gf's grandparents, use it eery time now. mmmmm

Mmm. Breakfast was my favorite part about my first visits to the UK as a kid. For some reason, I can't actually imagine someone making all that stuff for themselves though.

I'm doing good if I manage scrambled eggs AND bacon in the morning.

*Upchucks a little more over the Filter floor. Bisto-tinted tomato puke and all>*

Chopped tomatoes are just on the edge of respectability for brekkie, but Bisto for christsakes? I expected more from you Filter.

And you want to marry into this family too....

:(
