Fringe Festival accommodation

Hello!

Me and a mate are coming up to Edinburgh for the festival in August for a few days. Dunno if we've left it too late, but does anyone know of anywhere decent and cheap to stay around the city? Any suggestions much appreciated!

Thanks

In the festival, you must be kidding.

You could try hostels etc but most of them get booked-up pretty early & Uni-halls & the like go quickly for performers etc & are not partucularly cheap anyway. Some hostels are also truly dire places IME.

SYHA also usually take-over a Uni hall in the Cowgate as a temp summer hostel.

There are also some camp-sites out on the fringes which may be a better bet if you have a tent & sometimes offers on Travelodge-type places can be OK.

Alternatively, the fine old Edinburgh tradition of kipping on a mate's, mate's floor is still alive & well. Get asking! :D

Best of luck flangelina!! You may well need it!!

Me and my mate did some detective work yesterday, and thanks to the links from pogofish, we managed to find a twin room in a hostel for 4 nights. I was expecting availability to be a total nightmare, but we're sorted! About 10 mins walk from Princes Street, which will do just fine, I reckon.

We've also booked all the shows we want to see that have been listed on the edfringe website - pays to be anal sometimes :) Sooo looking forward to it!

Glad they were useful. :)

Also, make a point of checking-out one or more of the following on a regular basis during your stay - The Fringe Office/Shop, The Hunter Square to St Giles section of the Royal Mile, White Horse Close & The Plesance Courtyard (most are within @10-15mins walk of each other). Lots of shows have previews & give away bungs - Some will provide free drinks or dish-up free food in order to lure punters in. Especially early shows! ;) The BBC do a lot of their stuff at the Pleasance too so if you want to watch for names/faces, get yourself recorded for a vox-pop on the festival show or get tickets to some of their (often free) recordings, some time in the courtyard bar/cafe can be well rewarded.

Also get the Scotsman as early as you can each day - Throughout the festival, they usually have limited numbers of free tickets to give away daily. Some shows go pretty quickly tho or have a deadline so you need to get-in early to get them.

Have a good time! :D

Oh, remember this place from the other Edinburgh thread, If you are near Princes St, Snax is a very handy & cheap place to eat:

Again PF, brilliant tips :D We were a bit short on the earlier shows actually - first ones we're going to see starting around 4.30ish - and we've got some tickets for the Radio 4 Stars of the Future at the Pleasance, but yeah, keen to cram in as much as possible!

I shall be printing this along with the other Edinburgh thread for suggestions. Thanks again! :)

And if you like drinking chocolate go to the Chocolate Soup shop, though I'm sure that's mentioned on the other thread if it's teeps's one you're on about.

Fringe festival accomodation....LOL!!!!!! :D :D

I spent an entire festival dossing about, it was fucking horrible...and I was performing (at Marco's Leisure Centre  )at 11pm.

You can try the bed and breakfasts on Hermitage Way in Leith. I've just come from there and it's about 10mins away from the city centre.

Couldn't check the name could you please? There is no Hermitage Way in Edinburgh. I need to find somewhere for Tuesday night.

Probably means East Hermitage Place. If you follow Easter Rd right down to the bottom them go straight at the roundabout. Think there's a few B&Bs down there, but not sure they willl have rooms at this time of year. *shrugs*

You would probably be best getting bus number 1 or 25 as Easter Rd is deceptively long. Ask the Driver to give you a shout at Duke St. Queen Margaret Uni is just opposite.

ETA: Just realised that the number 25 goes along East Hermitage Place.
