Friend of mine mugged on Brixton Hill

i always feel safe in brixton, reminds me of hackney, where I also feel safe

i very rarely feel unsafe in hackney, but almost always get hassle whenever i go to brixton.. though i spend a hell of a lot more time in hackney than i do in brixton ,so that might have something to do with it...

/derail update.

He got charged, but the charges were dropped by the attackers as part of their plea bargaining type action...

My boy is quite hefty too, and doesn't look like the sort you would start trouble with, and he's been mugged a couple of times. Baffling, innit.

yep I can aggree on that. I almost never got trouble in the area i used to live in, my partner would be dealing with someone trying it on probably once a week and he's a big lad. Got to the point I would do the walk to the shops for fags at 2am because it was safer for me to go than him.

What an inditment of how shitty the Old Bill are and how dangerous a place Brixton is to live (as an ex-Brixton resident, I can atest to this)

I know you are just an illiterate troll but....
Glad you have taken your police hating attitude out of an area where IME the Met is at its best.

Moral of the story folks is that you are far more likely to be mugged if you are pissed.

Sorry twat, I didn't realise that I was being marked for spelling.

I personally have had bad experiences of the Old Bill when I lived in Brixton. They are frankly cunts. If that is the Met at their best then I wouldn't like to see them at their worst.

i'm used to hackney, i've been there since 93, brixton is somewhere i go occasionally, but i've never had any problems when i have gone down there

Well after reporting the incident to the police he has just received report from them headed "Property Lost in Street"

Bad luck

I feel sad that your friend was mugged, it was a cowardly attack. One that could have happened to anyone anywhere, it's just bad luck, if it wasn't him it would have been some other unfortunate. Hope he manages to get some work soon, that's a real bummer: not being able to get to a new job 'cos of some numb-skull hitting you. This is not Brixton specific.

If there was any doubt that the property went missing during the assault, then (as long as they have recorded the assault as a crime) they may well have listed the property as lost. If nothing has been listed as a crime then they are out of order.

Write to the Chief Superintendent, detailing the incident, the report made and any reference numbers / shoulder numbers / names of officers involved.

Stress:

(a) you want the report properly classified as a crime (and to receive an appropriate crime number and update on what (if anything) they propose to do about investigating it)
(b) you would like an explanation for why the crime was not recorded as such and, should you not now be pursuing the matter, the crime figures would be incorrect
(c) ask if it is a deliberate policy to inaccurately record crime allegations as you are aware of another similar situation where a theft from the person was initially recorded as property lost (there is another thread on here from about 4 weeks ago but I can't find it at the moment - using the search facility here is not a strength!)
(d) that unless you receive a satisfactory answer within 14 days you will be making formal complaint alleging improper crime recording practices to the Professional Standards Department and the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

He has a crime number (he got it after he reported incident by telephone). Then they sent out the form headed "Property Lost in Street".

Next day he went down there (or phoned?) and said he wasn't happy it was being classed as lost and they said they can't put it down as a mugging or assault as there were no witnesses.

The fact that his nose and eye are cut and he has bruised ribs and a long gash down his arm and a sore shoulder isn't proof enough. OK, so I suppose there's a few on here that would say that because he'd had a drink maybe he was doing a bit of pavement inspecting which would account for maybe landing on his face etc. He reckons by the pain on his back and shoulder that he was hit from behind which probably caused him to fall forward. Whether this accounted for his face being smashed up or whether they kicked him he doesn't know as he was unconscious. As for the ribs and back, is it possible to do all this in one fall as well?

I think the police are just assuming he was drunk and lost his stuff.

Not sure how £120 and cards and keys manage to fall out of your pockets though

Will print this out for him Detective as well as the other thread.

Thank you
