Fridge/freezer on the blink. Wh'up?

on the inside or at the very back?

I have to say I love it, it's my new favourite thing in the world :D

Is the freezer part spectacularly, unusually, frosted up? If this is the worst it's been I'd try defrosting it - there is some sort of relationship between fridge/freezer/room temperature but I can't remember anything about it (that was helpful )

The lower freezer half is still in full ice-tastic cold-as-you-like mode, but the fridge bit has suddenly warmed up, so it's barely providing any chilling at all.
Sounds to me like the thermostat's gone. This happened to a fridge of mine once, and whilst the icebox stayed frozen for a while, that too soon started warming up. Oddly, although the lower fridge was warming up, a huge panel of ice appeared in it at the back.

That sounds like what's happened here.

Reading around some web forums, it looks like the minimum charge for an engineer is £90 + VAT + parts - it it needs a new circuit board we could be looking at around £200.

I'll give Servis a call later and see what the deal is....

It might work out cheaper to buy a new fridge. There's no guarantee a rapair won't fail within days, anyway (as it did in my case - necessatating the purchse of a new fridge anyway  ).

I know. I had the same thing happen with a video recorder I got repaired. I just contributing to the throwaway society, but it probably will work out far cheaper and practical to buy a new fridge.

e-spares have a fault-finding page on their site and will sell you the bits and pieces to get it working again if you can find out what's wrong with it.

oops - just seen someone else has already posted that. e-spares are good though - they sorted out a bit for me when I wired up our cooker wrong and it melted . . .

Our fridge went all weird when e moved to our new flat, my diagnosis of your problem is it's fucked, Currys have a good sale on at the moment and will deliver your new one and recycle your old which i pretty good!

You can't beat a good scientific analysis of the problem! :D

But you're right. I reckon it's borked.

Rang up Servis. They say it's the thermostat/compressor. Crap company can't recommend any trusted repair companies because I'm not on an extended warranty, so basically they;re saying, "fuck off".

Call out charge of a minimum of £90 + parts + time + screwed it it fucks up three months later = fuck it, I'll buy a new one. :(
