I could be - are we going to organise an 'Urban B Boy' type visit?? I will just have to check that there are still tickets available!

And I'm the Leader Of The Pack! :D

BB

(After writing this I ordered a ticket - so I shall be there!!!!)

Is this anything to do with UK Fresh??

They still owe me £80 for tickets.

Edit: It appears not. Sorry should of read the thread a bit better.

Does anyone like read the thread...

(look like 5 posts up Dask - dah editing)

:p

Not sure if an Urban outing is happening, but there are a few Brixton crew coming down. We can meet you in a brightly lit location if you're concerned...

Well, if you give me your 'wants lists' now I could have stuff ready for the night!

BB :)

Cheers for the offer BB - I may well take you up on that.

I warn you though, there are probably a couple of enthusiastic old heads coming down with me. It could be old school geek city between us all...

Better start polishing the lino then!

BB :)

There was another ad for this in last week's Time Out and the line up had changed. Out go Chubb Rock and Rob Base (no great loss) in comes Lords Of The Undergound (not that old school, but great all the same) and.....wait for it.......MC Shan.

 :)

On hearing that Shan is performing, i just bought a ticket. None of my mates wanted to go to this, so any chance of meeting up with some of you guys?

Sounds good mate - pm me and we will arrange something.

BB :)

So who went to this? It was always going to be a bit too good to be true but I felt pretty short changed with Shan and Big Daddy Kane failing to show.

Biz Markie and Roxanne Shante were fucking great though so it kind of made up for it.

Funniest part of the night was Kurtis Blow asking who we though were going to win the world cup...

"America?....Noooooo"
"France?......Noooooo"
"Barcelona?.........." Ummm. No.

I was there!.I thought that Kurtis Blow's performance was a revelation, a true example of 'old school'. I couldn't believe it when the 2nd dj playing between acts started playing 'Rappers Delight' and then changed his mind, as Blow was walking back on stage with the mic ready to perform some more.....then the dj changed the track!!!! So Blow walked back in to the shadows saying something along the lines of 'You missed your chance...'.

Shante and Bizmarkie were great too, but I was hoping that Shante would have stuck around longer. It was a mad moment to actually hear her perform 'Roxanne's Revenge', I felt like a teenager listening to Mike Allen again.

I left after that, did De La Soul come on Top Biller?

BB:)

Nope, after Biz had left there was about 20 minutes of waiting, which ended in more bottle throwing and booing, a bottle hit the DJ's arm and he walked off stage (fair enough) although it reached a crescendo when the record ran out and the instrumental version of the track started up. A crew member ran on and hastily stuck on another record but got the speed wrong, it was all a bit farcsical. Then they announced that De La Soul had been "delayed at another gig" and everyone left a bit disgruntled.

My highlight was Biz and Shante doing "Def Fresh Crew", took me right back to the day I got home from Our Price with my Electro 11 LP and heard it for the first time. Quality.

No mention of Shan not turning up though which pissed me off, although he may have left when the warm up DJ played The Bridge Is Over by BDP. That made me smile. :)

It was all a bit of a shambles wasn't it? Shame really - the acts that made it all put 100% in, but the way it was organised and dragged out sucked the big one. It'd have been better if they'd just been honest and shortened the bill - dragging it out for an hour between each group pushed things to high frustration levels, not helped by the fact that they'd employed a Will Young lookalike as a DJ.

Whatever happened to the UK support eh. The breakdancers only seemed to appear briefly during Kurtis Blow's set and even the graffitti guys failed to turn up. And who the hell was the first (solo) act on before the Lords of The Underground? - I was still none the wiser afterwards. I'm sure even the mc even deliberately mumbled when they annouced him.

Still, I finally got to see Biz on stage, and its been 20 years since I last saw Shante live. Worth the effort just for those two alone, and Kurtis Blow good and cheesy good time hip hop set was great too. It's a shame the organisers were such a useless shower of shits...

Well...I was there, and have to agree it was a bit of a let down, highlight for me was definitely kurtis blow followed by shante, ended up having to persuade my mates not to leave ages before the end cos they were getting bored though...they kinda ruined it for me from that point on :( . Still glad I went but definitely had much higher hopes when I first heard about it
