I'd be interested if you've got a source for that, cos the BBC are saying they are still detained

french radio 2 days ago. it may be that there are only serious attempts to free the journalists, not the plane pilot or the zoe's ark staff.

sarkozy has said (french radio is the source) that he wanted a solution where nobody would be too embarassed at the end of it. I am sorry, if criminal actions (child trafficking or whatever) were involved (we're talking children) the guilty parties should be thoroughly shamed and properly sentenced.

I completely agree with you. Don;t get me wrong, I am certainly not an apologist for the charity, just really interested in this situation and its coverage

Today I saw an interview with one of the couples who had everything ready for the child. They showed the bedroom they had prepared, visibly with very much love (decorated with little African animals on its walls to make the child feel "at home"), the announcement cards to tell family and friends about their child having arrived (made by the mother to be herself) etc... They also showed the contract which clearly stated that after the paperwork for "regulation" of the child's stay in France, they could adopt it.
Clearly they were convinced all of this was legal and sound and the child was an orphan they could save from starvation (they paid some 2.800 Euro "expenses"). Not only were they very sad, but they were also very angry.

This was followed by a report on UNICEF workers in the orphanage who were filmed while taking pictures of children and interview. It now seems that most children have both parents alive and the others one of the parents. A few parents had already been found and arrived at the orphanage. They told the "white people" promised them to send the children to school (for two years) in "the city". They had no idea they would leave the region, let alone the country.
The same story was told by children (3 siblings among them, imagine that someone abducts not one, but 3 of your children at the same time). They were told they would go to school "in the city" for a few years and were taken away on a bus. (to never see their parents and homeland again.)

salaam.
