The solution is local growing and allotments for all on a national version of the Greenthumbs model in New York, or the food co-operatives in Havana. Multi-nationals wouldn't be so much challenged as out-fought in the market, which would be ironic. Multi-nationals can no longer afford to offer ultra-cheap food because of fuel costs. Urban gardens and rooftop gardens as suggested by Plaid, the Greens etc would need minimal (if any) use of fuel in production and transport. Wales for example is technically self-sufficient in food, but land is deliberately left unused so as not to compete with imports.
