free night in Edinburgh this Friday, any suggestions?

Well, paid, yeah but the views from the tops fof them you would pay for its unbeleivable.... 100m ab ove a beautiful Munro. Can't knock it. Hard work climbing 100m ladders though.

45mph wind at 730m abov sea level makes v. cold.

Silly twats in edinburgh just wan t a fight, should get out of hte town and dig the scenery.

I think Irvine Welsh had something tgo say on the subjecg.

Edinburgh has evolved into a money grabbing hellhole imo.

Do you want to drink or drink and dance. I can ask people who know about these things. Pm The Boy, he works in an Edinburgh pub iirc. He'll know where's worth going, and probably know where the fag machines are too, if pubs still have them.

I used to work in a George Street wank-bar. I managed to escape :-)

As far as the OP goes, if you're planning on visiting again I can recommend the Brauhaus in Tollcross. Shit pub, but they have over 300 different bottled beers and you may even benefit from my worldly wisdom if I happen to be in.

Also, The Cask and Barrell on Broughton Street is a good pub. Was in there last night with someone and the bar staff knew exactly what we were after each time we ordered. And they have a decent range of real ales.

Can't remember the last time I saw a fag machine in a pub though.

edinburgh does seem awfully posh. after reading irvine welsh books i though leith walk would be like totally mental. i went through to edinburgh for a dundee united vs hibs game - leith walk seems like a pretty nice place.

Cobblers.

There are quite a few pubs you really wouldn't want to drink in, but having been a regular in the Old Salt for many a year and having spent many a morning drinking down Duke Street, I can honestly say it really isn't that bad. Not compared to the stories I hear of friends' mums and dads about the old days anyways.

Maybe because I'm from the Gorgie side of town with absolutly no reason to visit that end of town has swayed my vision slightly.

'mon the Hertz!

To be fair, I'd rather drink down Leith Walk/Easter Road on a matchday than go anywhere near a Gorgie boozer.

Having said that, there are a few decent pubs down Gorgie way if cheap is what you are after.
