but my point was that when they think they will play well and win, they invariably play well: when they think they will do badly, they generally do badly.

it doesn't matter that their wins were against teams who were not playing at their best: it's boosted their self-belief, and hence their chances of getting through to the final.
 
1-0 Les Bleus - Zidane (Penalty). Henry was tripped in the penalty area by Carvahlo. From what i've seen on the replay it's quite a clear penalty

I think your thinking is dominated by your wish for Saturday's victors over England to win again ... ;)

Actually I agree it was a dodgy-ISH decision ... 50/50 like ... Henry definitely overreacted, but it was a bad/late challenge on him by Carvalho too.

Not sure about Portugal's penalty claim just now, didn't see it properly :o , need to check again ... through neutral eyes ... ;)

Come to think of it it's a bit of an iffy decsion (after looking at the replay again) by the referee to award the spot kick to France.

Eh? I couldn't give much of a toss who wins, I just want just descisions. Maybe a second look will change my mind, but till then I stand by my opinion that this wasnt as objective as the commentator's made out. I wouldnt have given it.

Alan Shearer in stating the truth shocker. He's right, this has been a dissapointing tournament ON THE FIELD, especially from the 2nd round.

Is there any wonder players feel they gain advantage by diving? I don't know how 'analysts' can objectively moan about play-acting when they condone such an airy-fairy approach. The 'contact' consisted of Carvalho upon falling back, rubbing his boot gently on Henry's shin which prompted the Frenchman to fall down half a second later and look immediately at the ref. :rolleyes:

I think you're slightly underestimating Carvalho's guilt, but yes, otherwise I agree ... Henry milked it ... :(

He's clearly talking bollocks ...I hope thats just deliberate media bollocks by him, and that if he gets on the staff, he's harsher and more critical ...

Of course it was a dive. But its an interesting contrast between their criticism of it and their certainty on the one which lead to the French penalty.
