There appears to be no thread dedicated directly to this feast of football ;)

Predictions?

Mine : 2-0 to France, within 90 minutes, and at least one Portuguese sending off.

at least ONE of my big predictions has got to come right at some point! :o

Now that Deco is back, France have a game on their hands I reckon. I want the French to win due to the few games they have played great football so deserve where they are but can see Portugal actually beating them in extra time.

I really don't know about this one. I think France have been fairly ordinary so far - i thought Henry's terrible face hugging swung the Spain match and he wasn't marked at all for the goal against Brazil.....but i could well be wrong as most people i speak to think they've got better and better.

Don't they have a few people on yellow cards already?

France are the better team, but i suspect Portugal may sneak it somehow.

I so hope Portugal can do this.

I tipped them from the outset. The French could go either way, but the Portugese will give a performance no matter what.

With Deco back they'll be have alot more options going forward than they did against England.

People forget that Portugal are a small country that consistently churn out good players, play with technique, flair and importantly organisational discipline.

It would be great to see them do it.

Go Deco!

france to win, i think it'll break a few records - like 6-3 or something like that (or more!), with a player sent off on either side.

France to teach them a lesson, just like they did at Euro 2000.

France 4 Portugal 1

no fucking hope!

How many goals have Portugal conceded in this tournament?

That would be 1.

Don't underestimate a team who won all their group games, and haven't conceded a goal since.

Their fullback Miguel is a fucking legend. Anyone know who he plays for?

Doubt he'll be there long after this world cup.

I'd like him at Man Utd but we already got Heinze, but then again Heinze has shown his worth in the centre, and Evra hasn't exactly been shining.

Nah, silly talk, United need Midfielders, Gattuso and Pirlo at bargain prices from a Serie B AC Milan sounds good.:D

would Kaka struggle to get Kieran Richardson's place as well? ;)

What you talking about?

He'd have to shine pretty bright to be seem against the star that is John O'Shea.;)

Knowing Chelski, they'll buy Kaka for 45 million and play him on the bench just to keep Crespo company.

I've taken the night off work so I can watch this - hope I'm not disappointed. I said all along that we would beat Brazil if we came up against them, but I'm really not sure about this one. France have 4 players on a yellow - inculding Zidane - so will habe to be careful, but I get the impression that with so many players retiring, and them making up for the embarassment that was 2002 that the team are playing with a great degree of freedom.

ahhhh fuck. I'm getting nervous now :(

I eventually gave in and got myself a Portugal Shirt (nice Anarcho Black away one), so of course they are gonna get beat now!:(

Actually, it's great being a short arse, i was able to buy the Large Kids shirt for 28 quid whilst the adult sizes were 45.:D

I like Portugal too. Their one weakness is Pauletta. If Portugal had 2 world-class strikers to go with their excellent midfield and defence they would do serious damage. It'd be great if Portugal won the WC but I can't see anything other than a France v Italy final. France have more of a cutting edge up front and Henry is always likely to get a goal.

I think Brockway's right, Portugal are, or can be, very good, but France unless they slip back to early-tournament form really badly, are much better. More quality in the side.

i dont much care for either of these teams, but i suppose i would rather france win, than portugal. so long as they don't win the actual cup :)

I'm in a quandry.. France is my sweepstake team... but I dont want France to win it...

On a bit of a tangent, I've agreed to meet at the sports cafe with some mates for this one but I've been made aware that it is an awful place. Any good suggestion for central boozers for the footy and some food?

i don't think they'll slip back to their early form though: France are your classic 'confidence' side (much like arsenal - surprise surprise) - when they hit good form, it tends to hang around for a while, and the same when they hit a bad patch: they'll get stuck in a rut of playing badly until they haev a good game, and then they'll be right again.

compare this with, say, england or argentina, who tend to have one good (ish) game, then a bad one, then a good one etc and so on...

oh come on, France have hit their "form" against two teams that always looked suspect at the back.

Portugal are a completely different breed. They are organised, disciplined and also have the ability to break forward.

Brazil for all their talent were always liable to concede.

Come on the Portugal!
