France V Holland

What odds were Holland to win before the tournament? Their chances weren't being rated too high so i'm guessing you could get good odds, good call to anyone who did...

I think their odds are pushed back a bit by their notorious flakiness on penalties, about on a par with England's....

An absolute beaut of match!

What a totally superb team performance from The Dutch, who have been an absolute joy to watch. Wonderful & incisive counter-attacking football producing 3 brilliant goals (van Persie, Robben and Sneijder). Wes Sneijder scored an dandy of goal, even better than the one he scored against Italy.

Marco van Basten took one hell of a risk by taking off holding midfielder Orlando Engelaar for Robben & Dirk Kuyt (who worked his arse off again) for van Persie - other coaches wouldn't have took that risk. But it worked brilliantly, just as France were threatning to get back in the game. The men in Orange responded postively, especially when Robben scored a minute later after Terry Henry scored a nice goal for Les Bleus. Another great team performance from the Oranjie, through to the quarter finals as group winners, just wondering if van Basten will select an experimental team for the match against Romania?

As for France, what the hell was mystic Raymond Domenech thinking in terms of his tactics? For a match of this importance you need goals, so why leave two holding midfielders i.e. Claude Makelele & Jeremy Toulalan on the pitch? Why wasn't Malouda (who was quiet & disappointing again) taken off. Why wasn't Karim Benzema or Samir Nasri put on? Both of them who could have sparked some urgency into France's play.

It was really, really awful performance from France, who deserve to go home after the first two games. The only French player who played to his potential was Franck Ribery who kept on trying. Whilst his team mates didn't have the same desire & workrate, yet alone the same wavelength as Ribery. This match and the Italy - Romania match was international football at it's very best! The Tuesday evening final group games will be very, very interesting it's whetted up my appetite that's for sure! :D

would you care to expand on that utterly stupid comment you fucking idiot?

Well he isn't that far off the mark. Even though we have improved a little under Capello, I yearn to see an England team play real possession football like the Netherlands and others play.

It's actually the entire English approach to the game which needs changing. For too long we've been totally dependent on set plays and free kicks. As brilliant as Beckham sometimes is at that, we need to evolve into a passing team who really play football instead of depending on moments

I'm not one of the ones who is totally revelling in England not being there. I do wish we were there. But I'm still really really enjoying this tournie.

i'd guess the sentiment is that england don't have any attacking players with the talent of some other european sides. would you really disagree with that?

capello hasnt had a competitive game

nooone at this tournament is that good except netherlands and spain yet, and they are both teams that like england fuck up in quarter finals or semi finals

watching italy today was kind of nostalgic for an england fan, they were fucking shit, when romania scored they switched on and scored easily, then played shit again

netherlands were rubbish for long periods of the game as well

england's problem is not the style of football, its the lack of teamwork. i bet the dutch would swap their player for an england player in any position except no9, the only team with more skillful players than england at the moment is argentina. the problem is that they are not a team

name a team in the tournament where gerrard or lampard would not get into....

Agree about Italy, I don't think they're all that good, and they're one of the worst world cup winners ever.

Croatia are clearly better than us, otherwise they wouldn't have beaten us twice in qualifying.

Croatia were the best team in the group, anyone could see that.

Eng should have finished second in that group though, even with a tit like McFuck in charge.

Anyway fuck it.

croatia were the best team. but i can't think of any croatia players who i would prefer to see in the england team than who we have

really what players do any team have that england doesn't at the moment? there are a couple, but england is not short of players

football is gay anyway

Mega Lulz.

name a team in the tournament where gerrard or lampard would not get into....

One that qualified for Euro 2008 :D

ok balbi

name a better keeper than the man utd side of 1957

what's that?

notehing ?

exactly

shut the fuck up if you don't know what you are talking about

profokiev ftw

goodinihgt vienna

he looks like a witch

i bet he has a cat which he can see through it's eyes

that isn't goalkeeping

bringing the modern game into disrepute imo

To be honest, for every Lampard there's a Deco. For every Gerrard there's a Pirlo. Ferdinand and Terry? Pick one of about seven players on display at the tournament. Rooney? Yeah wonderful if you've got a gifted wunderkind, not so much if noone can actually release the talent inside. Owen's a crock, and you don't need to rely solely on a striker if your midfield's a choesive enough attacking unit, which Englands hasn't been for....oh, ten years? Wingers? Don't make me laugh, with 101 on the right (has any team at Euro 2008 got a slower player) and Joe Cole (has any team....no wait, it's Florent Malouda isn't it....:D). Hargreaves has got his chops against European competition, so he could just about make the par for the tournament I guess. But without a proper attacking midfielder, one who's both dedicated and not a charlie big potatoes, it all goes to shit. Too many celebrities in the English football team, not enough bloody professionals. The last one to retire was Scholes.

:)

That last Dutch goal could cost France a lot... Am I right to say that if it had finished 3-1 France would have been above Italy on goal difference? As it stands Italy is above France so if Romania loses all they would need is a draw.

I could see Italy just doing that and then just scraping their way to the final and winning it

If Romania lose and France/Italy is a draw Romania would go through surely provided they don't lose by more than two goals.

Italy and France would go out. Where does goal difference come in the order of things that are used to seperate teams that are equal of points and drew when they played each other. (as Romania and Italy drew yesterday)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....that is pure gold.:D:D:D

Croatia outplayed England in both their matches in qualifying. England failed to properly see off mighty Macedonia and Israel and let a very ordinary Russia team sneak past them. The general skill level of Croatia's players is higher. Every one of them is comfortable on the ball. And you wouldn't choose a single one? Odd.

All I can say is: Think harder.

ok, i know that england were utter shit

but say playing a 4-4-2

you have

ashley cole, john terry, rio ferdinand, wayne bridge

beckham, lampard, gerrard, hargreaves

rooney, owen

i think all of those players would be starting on the croatia team. shit team, but a lot of good players
