Foreign Beggars SPAM FUCKWITTERY

if it's your night - you have a vested interest in it, you need permission from the Mods (and usually offer deals for urbanites). if it's people just planning to go to something or letting people know about something that sounds interesting, it's not spam because they don't stand to gain.

i know sometimes the boundaries can be vague but all harry needed to do was check

Serious?? Thats all?

I thought it might be some in crowd thing.... :p :D

surely, the reason for the faq is so that posters can read all about the forum rules and their reasons, without people having to repeatedly explain them?

just a thought...

Ok that seems fair BUT - the reason i was given before was that you cant post about events/club nights cos its a free forum.

But its ok if YOU (urbanites) get some benfits, yea?

I see how it works...

Time to get off the high horse then i guess.

Im sorry to come across as such a dick, which im sure i must do, but i was just trying to spread the word about the UK beatbox champs. Forums are a good way to get the word out and people need to enter otherwise it aint much of a competition.

Im not gonna gain from this - its a good event and i fuckin love the foreign beggars and its their album launch.

Sorry i didnt read the faq but i think this has all been a bit out of proportion to the offence.

People join up to lots of forums tho, eh... Who can honestly say every time they join a form they read all the rules, straight away. :)

fair play, harry, but can you imagine how frustrating / fucking irritating it is to see often dozens of such posts a week from people promoting their nights? it's a cumulative bad feeling, if you see what i mean.

Some people do show up, read the FAQ, PM the mods, go through all the proper channels, and it's fine.

also, if you were a poster who contributed to the boards as a whole, it would be see in a better light..

see it from the point of view of regular posters and the reaction you got might make sense.

Hopefully my cheery recommendation of the West Dean Chilli Fiesta on the Chilli Seedlings thread in the Recycle Stuff Forum will pass muster. :D

I'm not on the board of directors. :)

oh, absolutely - but the faq has been flagged up several times on this thread as where to go if you want clarification of the rules - and yet people are still asking, which makes me think perhaps they still haven't read them?

Like Dub said the boundaries can be quite vague...

another point, harry -

normally it doesn't matter when the mods change your original post to 'I'm A Spamming Cunt' or whatever, because the posters never actually stick around to see what happens. They spam and run..

I think Apathy started a thread last week about who our favourite beatboxers were, so you might want to check that out Harry, might be a more focused group to mention the beatbox champs to.

Thanks Harry.

People get annoyed because the site has turned down offers for thousands of pounds worth of advertising, so you can imagine how galling it is to see a Johnny-come-lately not only slapping up an advert for a commercial event, but completely ignoring the rules on advertising, cut and paste and image sizes.

As has been explained before, adverts are only permissable if they've been cleared with the mods first.

As a rule of thumb, adverts are only likely to be allowed if they're for a benefit gig, an urban75-related event or if the poster has offered free tickets/discounts so the community gets something back.

I feel warm inside.

Glad i didnt get me coat.

If anyone is interested in entering the beatbox champs the website is:

www.UKBeatboxChampionships.com

And the west heat takes place at Fiddlers in bristol on 22nd April.

If you know of any budding beatboxers then please pass on the info to them.

Hopefull thats all cool.

Anyway.. im at work so better actually do some!!

Ina bit.

The other way people get to talk about club nights and events is if they actually post on these forums regularly and they start a thread along the lines of "Does anyone fancy coming along to XYZ?" - for example people are often talking about going to beer festivals, restaurants, pubs, gigs, galleries or whatever. There is a difference between using the site for free advertising and people talking about stuff. If someone is a completely new poster then its worth clearing threads like this. Once you have been reading u75 for a while you will get a feel for the line between what is considered advertising and what is considered genuine disinterested discussion of upcoming events.

Respect Harry....you fought your corner well, i think some people just like swearing on message boards.

is it Harry of the Bristol dubplate studio? i heard a lot of recommendations about your dubs. are they the everlasting ones?
