For The (Ahem) Older Posters..

i use urban as a resource for finding out new music.

or indeed evaluating stuff that i havne't heard before.

there are quite a few posters here who i know that if i just search on soulseek for the bands they're listening to i'm going to find a band i like.

and if kained&able likes a band, i know they're absolute welly.

But do you think being around urban makes your interest in music and awareness of new stuff more pronounced than if you weren't?
Yep.

Urban75 was really the catalyst that moved me to actually listen and appreciate dance music. I hated it before, coming from a strong guitar rock background.

I'm still determined to get into Reggae, so where's my mix you stillborn cum bubble?

old people

great, aren't they?

bless :)
Dub is so old that when he was a child, rainbows were in black in white.

Poor Dub, if he acted his age he'd be dead. :(

i think its quite sweet all the decrepid urbanites trying to grasp the last bit of youth they have by lurking around urban trying to see whats hip with the kids these days...

The timely application of MDMA caused gloworm to start to appreciate drum and bass/hardcore/house/dirty ket sounds for the first time after a life thus far of country music and strong tea.;)

Now I get reminded urgently to remember to bring the "tablets" to WOMAD.

What have I helped create!:D ;)

i used the term carefully and went on to explain myself more fully. Your selective reading of my post is not to your credit.

Did anybody else read this post in an Obi Wan Kenobi voice?

I'm not old but Urban converted me to country which is the genre I've hated most during my life.
This is one of the best things I've ever seen on the boards.

<wipes tear from eye>

it's all very well and good pushing 40 and liking cool music, but it's us who have to pay for your hip replacements when you try to do body popping

Best start saving your pocket money, innit. Perhaps you could ask your mum for a raise?

:p

urban definitely influences peoples tastes - i liked the way a couple of people raved about High on Fire after seeing them at supersonic the other weekend, and then suddenly everyone has the album. :D

good stuff. i was also converted to country music by you people. :)

it hasn't influenced my music taste; but it has pointed me in the direction of certain bands/artists i wouldn't have come across otherwise.

the "album you love most" thread is king

I think punk opened people's eyes. Grow up listening to that racket and you're pretty much geared for anything really.

Are you suggesting the people that like country are mentally ill? :(

Not at all, to each their own, but to be converted, oh dear ;)

I like the Devil went down to Georgia and Rawhide and that's about it. I tried listening to that Family band you guys like but sorry it just doesn't do a thing for me.

Another country convert through Urban here. It was the sort of music I made a point of avoiding for reasons that only apply to a particular type of C & W.

Edit: I'm not old though, obviously, so I don't apply to this thread at all. I would have found it anyway with my lithe and youthful mind.

That'll be the indie part of their sound not the country. ;) :p
