Footless Tights - yay or nay?

I also prefer ankle length as well. I find having the cut-off mid leg draws attention to the leg in and messes with the balance of an outfit.

Disagreeing with Spanglechick on a matter of fashion!!

heh.

you have really long, slim legs though. it's safe to assume i'm always on about trying to look less dumpy.

I use the same rule on footless tights as I do on a pencil skirt. high heel to push the calf up Thus making the bit below the calf slimmer) then have the line just below the fattened calf.

3/4 length sleeves on jumpers annoy me, though. If I'm wearing a jumper it's because I want to be warm.

Another vote for "initially resisted then relented and realised they're great".

Where the hell do people get them from though?

Everyone's wearing them and I can't find them anywhere.

In the end I bought a Walford pair worth £18 (bought with 20% off and which are actually fab so probably worth the outlay). But they were literally the only pair I could find anywhere that weren't neon or crazy patterned.

I get mine in American Apparel and they are ace

As a bloke I give them a big no no. The ones that end at the ankles are dreadful and I have been wishing they would go away for a good two years now. The ones that end mid leg are way more acceptable but not that good.

Not just talking about myself, t'is my general view on the matter :D

I guess I tend to look at things in the sense of the overall aesthetics of the outfit though, not whether it flatters the wearer.

So mid-length tights detracting attention from a lovely dress gets the thumbs down from me. I wouldn't notice whether it was flattering on the calf or not.

This ^^^^

I'm none the wiser about length. You coming to clothes swap tomorrow spangles? You can explain to me then :D

But if I wore a short dress with bare legs my legs would ruin the general aesthetic of a lovely dress. it's footless tights or no dress at all for me.

plus I have chubb thighs which is uncomfortable in the summer when they rub.

my reasoning is that if you draw abrupt lines at the thinnest point of a shape, it makes that bit seem small and the bits around it seem large by comparison (see belts on hourglass shapes). if i draw attention to my comparatively small ankles, it looks like my calf just balloons out above it.

it would be a very bad thing, too, if the line ended mid-calf - as lines at the widest points on a shape make the shape look wider at that point. visually speaking, to look longer and slimmer, the best thing is to have no lines at all (regular tights plus matching footwear / bare legs and flesh toned footwear), or as a compromise, to make sure that horizontal 'lines' caused by changes of colour or fabric hit on neither the widest nor the smallest points.

it's why 3/4 length sleeves are better than wrist length ones to make your arms look slimmer.

I think it depends on your height, tbh. I like the long ones as well.

I think this whole "footless tights, leggings, converse allstar, big hair, massive sunglasses, lumberjack shirt" is at best hideously ugly and unflattering, and at worst revolting and pretentous nonsense. ESPECIALLY the leggins;/footless tights bit.

Massive flared hipster jeans, and gypsy themed blouses FTW. Hope they make a comeback soon.

I haven't tried wearing them to be honest. I am not sure if I understand their purpose, Is it purely aesthetic or is it so you could have bare feet or what?

Fashion? pretentious? Never!
Dressing like a hippy that lives in a caravan, now that isn't at all :p

Peopl have such strong opinions about flip flops:D

I do have three pairs :o but I only ever wear them inside. I hate the look of my little toes in them, and I don't like seeing other people's feet (unless they are nice enough to meet my stringent standards).

I've got some at work in case it gets really hot but I don't like wearing them much.

I want to try the wet look ones to see if I would slide of seats when I sat on them.

they're too high fashion for me - but I am a big fan of the legging and footless tights
