footballers who maybe shouldn't have left their first clubs

Jullian dicks(presuming he started at ours) rubbish for liverpool, quality every time he put on a west ham shirt.

dave

Pretty certain I saw him play at Birmingham City alongside Noel Blake before he softened up at Upton park - so yup he should have stayed at his original club:

Bob Latchford
Trevor Francis
Andrew (AJ) Johnson

though admitedly they did okay at some of the other clubs they joined.... :(

Stuart Slater, disappeared off the radar once he left West Ham (for Everton, was it? Or maybe Celtic?)

Liam Brady paid £1.5m to bring him to Celtic Park with the promise he'd put bums on seats. Trouble is he never did anything to get them off them.

Still shudder at the memory of him in the hoops.

Not quite the same thing, but I keep thinking of Freddie Sears who came through our youth ranks, had a good loan spell I think at Southend, and then scored on his debut, and then proceded to believe he was the new Michael Owen and drive his team mates spare.

Perhaps his loan spell at Palarse will do him good. I hope so.

he looks good

I forgot chippy had a few seasons at West Ham (and what a player he was) - must have been where he first noticed Slater.

Slater was superb for us, shame it didn't continue. A quick look at his wiki page tells us he signed for Wivenhoe - managed by Julian Dicks!

I guess he was edged out a bit by Owen's emergence, but Robbie Fowler outscored everyone bar Shearer in his early years at Liverpool, and then got caught up in the Leeds implosion. His was a very good centre forward.
