Football scum on public transport.

Since there are wild (and mainly untrue) generalisations about football clubs, football players and football supporters on this thread, there's no reason why there shouldn't be some about the working class too. :D

Most working class people don't give a flying fuck about football and football is not the sole preserve of the working class so I fail to see your point.
 
Actually, I wonder was it Goole fans - some of them can be a bit er... lively, and they were travelling away yesterday.
I have a marvellous photo somewhere of one of them on his way to hospital having had a piece of his arse bitten off by a police alsatian. :cool:
 
we had a bunch of cretins jailed for trying to destroy a pub that had rival supporters in none of the "fans" had gone to the match. and all were over 30 ffs

Even Brighton has its share of violent nutters. Somebody was murdered because they'd turned down a trial with Brighton.
There a plenty of normal football fans but there are some right muppets.
maybe we could invite the israel's over to police match days.
to be fair the Fash are a fairly endandged species these days and are usually outnumbered by plod and or protestors.

On the other hand, can you think of many situations, apart from football and possibly rugby fans, where that kind of behaviour would be considered anything other than boorish and inconsiderate?

I'm not slagging off all football fans here, but there seems to be a certain licence for antisocial behaviour that would be unacceptable under other circumstances.
 
How would this thread have gone if Longdog hadn't mentioned football, do you reckon?

Proffessional well paid job, relatively short hours. . A significant say in your own contractual terms.

I think football is becoming too anodyne and too policed. I think its fine to get a bit noisy once in a while.

But agreed - traveling with that would have pissed me off no end.

Did you know that most footballers are not paid thousands of pounds a week ? In fact the average wage for players in League 1 ( 3rd level of football in England ) is just over 1000 a week which is not the thousands that your claiming is it !

I can quite clearly remember a certain bus journey with a select group of people from this very board. Where 1 bottle of whisky,1 bottle of tequila and a bottle of vodka got drunk. I'm reasonably sure we had a sing song,and were quite loud. We had a great time,but we did get a few funny looks from the passengers. Hanging's too good for us :mad: :(

I find comments like this really disturbing. I'm sorry you had such an unpleasant journey, Longdog, and it's a shame that some people use going to the football as an excuse to behave like this (in the same way that some people will drink too much on a Saturday night after going out clubbing and get into fights). But it was this kind of 'all football fans are scum' attitude in the 80s that led to perimeter fencing being put up, ground safety legislation being ignored and police treating football fans like animals to be rounded up and contained. People died as a result. Thousands of people travel to football games every week; most of them don't behave anything like this.

Have you seen how much it costs to follow a major team these days?

I'd suggest that alone suggests it stopped having much to do with the working class long ago. If it ever did in the first place.

All I've ever seen is it used to keep the plebs in their places anyway.
