Do you want rugby style refereeing rules?

  • No way! The refs are already shown too much respect

Seriously why does gobbing off back at a ref bother youse so much, just seems to be the zeitgeist to whinge about the lack of respect for authority and to focus in on the most tiny irrelevant micro issues.
Without respect for the ref there is no game.

Not unless you want bullies and cheats to prosper, of course.

anychance of a response, or have you bottled it?
Response to what? Your idiotic comment about how my "leek taste," whatever that means?

Talking of bottling it, have you managed to find which Welsh person has claimed a gag about sheepshagging is "racist," yet?

I wasn't saying you do, but the whole (non) issue fits snuggly within current discourses. I'm not even denying that players are often overpayed whinging fannies but the fact it has become such an issue seems rather strange. In the past they kicked lumps out of each other and now that the game has become even more high pressure and the rules tightened it means players are going to mouth. It doesn't bother me, no one worries about Ice Hockey setting a bad example when the players fight.

But Ice Hockey players get short shrift (and rapidly sent off) if they mouth off to officials, which is the point of the thread really. And at least there's integrity and a pleasing simplicity to their fights - they throw the gloves off and then knock seven bells out of each other, followed by the referee sending off the instigator and other participant(s) for a set amount of time.

You'll never see a hockey player faking injury and rolling around pathetically in an attempt to get someone else booked though. They'd be roundly mocked.

oh stop being such a dramatist, most of this "crisis" is media fuelled, have referees threatened to strike? Have we saw games descend into chaos and brawls more so than the 70's and 80's? I think the referees have thicker skin than you give them credit for. Anyway it's like the diving issue, it will fuck off some enough and youse can all get Daily Mailesque about some other non issue, and then we can all agree just how more civilised ruggers is, yawn.

can you follow discussion? I'm saying that the fact you can deck someone without being banned for months on the ice means if someone cheats you, you can take it out directly on them rather than bitching at the ref to do them or whatever.

i've asked you a simply question and you've yet to respond, I said are you welsh and if not then i'd admit I was wrong and that it was a non welsh person being a disingenious gnat.

So are you welsh or not?

ive only scanned through this thread,
and Revol mate, you know how to make football fans looks like pricks dont ya?

im not sure if the editor is welsh, bit i know he's spent a lot of time all over wales and likes the place. I think he could be welsh tho...
he loves the place wherever he is from.

footballers are terrible, they show the least respect to officials of any sport i can think off. the cup final at the wknd was a farse! these a proffessionals, the creme de la creme of the sport and they ruin it!

Oi Pasquale, easy with those squeaky strawmen. Who here's implying that there's a 'crisis' or stated that rugby is a more 'civilised' game?

It's bad enough you being a laughable parody of a 'controversial' (read fucking predicable) poster, but when you need to continually oversimplify and misrepresent the views of others the whole ranty silly little boy act gets even more tiresome.

Yes. But that doesn't help you back up your stupid claim. But feel free to dig yourself in deeper and I'll be on hand to laugh at your stupidity.

But are you sure you want to continue? I mean, look around you - no one's impressed with your off-topic arsery on this thread. Really.

well this would imply a certain seriousness to the issue, a seriousness I don't think is at all warranted.

How many more times do you intend to keep on trying to come up with a decent answer to my point?

PS The poll result doesn't seem to be backing you up either.

Do you also have out and out racism in your small-minded, xenophobic repertoire, stupid boy?

then you move on to some clueless dross about how football players having spoilt-brat hissyfits somehow makes the game more exciting and then you cap it off with a bout of embarrassing xenophobia.

Soo exactly what doesn't it back up?

cos clearer that proves anything doesn't it. Anyway as I said youse ones whinging about whinging are just as intregal apart of the old football pantomine as anyone else so I can't hold it against youse.:D

Err. Read my words carefully.

And see that thing at the end? It's called a question mark. So, I'm not making a statement, I'm asking a question.

Therefore I'm asking if you have any racist comments to add to your xenophobic ones - so that's definitely not the same as accusing you of being a "racist" which is what you've claimed.

Oh, hang on: I do hope you're not so stupid as to think xenophobia and racism are one and the same thing.

Are you?! Bwahaha!

oh dear lord, the old it was a question chestnut, what fucking age are you, you do know we have rhetorical questions in ireland too?

The very fact that you even dragged it out so long rather than pull your question mark out of yer hole earlier suggests you to be a sad pedant with a possible anal retentive streak.

Still perhaps you could explain how i am xenophobic considering the comments were quite clearly tongue in cheek? You've used up your wee question mark but maybe this time you can dig a bit deeper and find a colon. :D

I'm simply judging you on your own published words.

ah right so you must have missed all those posts i've made arguing against scapegoating immigrants, or my general libertarian communist politics, or maybe my opposition to all nationalisms, and only on sunday night i was taking the piss out of Maggot for assuming the welsh had nothing better to build a stadium for than the English FA to use as a temporary Wembley.

Seriously wise up you know fine well my politics and you know fine well i'm not racist or xenophobic.

It needs something sorting out. I'm all for the ten yard rule and the sin bin. I play football at a really crap six a side level and honestly some of the mouthing off, whinging and moaning that goes on makes me livid... from "grass roots" upwards football needs to encourage respect for both itself and the ref. If the ten yard and sin bin suggestions work that would be great although I would like to see some refs chin a few "proffessionals" like John Thick Terry;)

"So Dave, did you think the lads played well in what was a tough relegation dog fight on a difficult pitch in awful conditions infront of a hostile crowd?"

"Yes Perence. I thought the lads played very well in what was a tough relegation dog fight on a difficult pitch in awful conditions infront of a hostile crowd"

"Now Dave, their right winger caused you lots of problems with his flair, pace and his ability to make pin-point passes to their number 10 who is the top scorer in the league, don't you think?"

"Yes Perence, their right winger caused us lots of problems with his flair, pace and his ability to make pin-point passes to their number 10 who is the top scorer in the league."

With quality interviews like that, who said football was a game played by gentleman and followed by thugs?

The AaB Aalborg players were a disgrace last night. I don't normally go for this 'it's setting a bad example to the KiDz' stuff, but it can't be healthy for them to watch games sometimes stuffed full of cynical fouls, cheating, diving and endless harassment of the ref.

I'm fed up with whining, whinging, referee-hounding prima-donna footballers complaining about every single decision on the pitch and I reckon it's time for rugby-style refereeing.

I agree, I also think its time for the quality of Rugby referees to be matched by football refs. At the moment they stink, week in week out !! If that means technology then so be it, just keep it minimal !

Up The Potters !!!
