foodstuffs you don't trust

i know what i REALLY REALLY REALLY don't trust.

fucking celery.

the most untrustworthy substance on earth. it pretends to be food but it isn't. it tastes horrible. and it sneaks in all over the place.

celery must be stopped.

Some kind of weird grainy block thing, related to pasta somehow I think, i vaguely remember having to chop up a big squidgy lump of the stuff... But stay anyway, it's evil

Not a pasta... really just a cooked corn mush. Sort of like corn porridge. Cooked. Either soft or firm.

This thread has some fabulous stuff on it!!! If I could I'd invite you all over for a meal with artichokes, pine nuts, and polenta.

But someone else would have to bring the haloumi, because I have no knowledge of it at all. Never heard of it apart from you people.

I don't trust rhubarb, beets, and brussel sprouts.

i have just eaten some funny goats/ewe cheese that was reduced from 12quid to 2 quid a kilogram at somerfield yesterday that i carried to the pub and home and then left in the fridge I forgot to close overnight. i feel a bit ick now, it was a wee bit fizzy but have still nearly a kilogram to eat :( i am a wee bit suspicious of it though...

Don't trust it! Really, don't eat it cyberfairy. A test for untrustworthy coleslaw is whether a tiny bit fizzes on your tongue *recalls deli counter days* ... it must be the same

pop should be fizzy. cheese should be creamy, or else make your gums hurt :)
It is definately fizzy. I know how cheese should taste, dammit  Might put it on freecycle ;)

bulgar wheat.

i don't know what it is, or what it does, but i bought some from scoopaway anyway, "in case it comes in handy"

would you trust something called 'bulgar wheat'?

perhaps it's some new processed convenience food designed to appeal to kids, like cheese string crossed with blasting powder candy

it's not actually called bulgar... it's a layman's traslation! and it's bloody yummi in tabbouleh. a staple of middle eastern diet!

My ex boyfriend is coming over later-he loves cheese-will feed him some then watch to see if he gets sick or dies before having any more myself. It's a win/win situation! :)

do you treat all your exes like this? russian roulette, dairy-style

stobes - i don't mind squid but yeah, mussels i don't particularly trust either. i didn't realise that til just now! blimey i'm pickier than i thought i was :(

one word - Tabbouleh

a North African salad made with bulgar wheat, tomatoes, spring onions, flat leaf parsley and mint with a garlic, lemon and olive oil dressing spiced up with a bit of cinnamon and allspice - most people make it with too much bulgar and not enough parsley and mint - it should be green with flecks of bulgar rather than the other way round

You'll need to accompany it with a fizzy drink - no use alerting him

And on that note - I don't trust coke/pepsi/fizzy drinks. They make lace curtains of your teeth as soon as look at you.

cous cous is another one I don't trust. imean what is it trying to be. the good thing about is you can spray it everywhere when you have a mouthful.

edit: weird just realised that I have covered something similar to this thread in anthropology.

Pork, I became vege to avoid it, lots of fruit- in my house growing up fruit came in a tin not all this crazy fresh stuff that I don't know how to deal with. I'm getting better though and I'll eat melon now (my mum would be so proud). Oh yes, bananas, they are evil, they smell lush, taste lush, but make me sick.

Hmmmm, I don't really trust raw fish but I've had to eat a lot of it recently when my b/fs boss takes us out for meals.

nah, it's great! love it - love the way it looks when its cooked as well, like teeny-tiny spaghetti hoops!

edited to add: just stay stay on topic like, don't trust those 'lazy' herbs - all chopped up in jars. Always imagine they'll be like grass cuttings.

so do you just use it 'raw', or does it need soaking or something?
