Foodie things you're prepared to 'splash out' on.

I'm accumulating a pool of drool on my keyboard :D

And she's a brilliant cook too

I do spend a lot of money on food because I buy mainly organic stuff from Waitrose or M&S.

I like food - and I think meat's far too cheap so that rather than making veggies and stuff, they buy cheap stuff thereby supporting the market in appalling animal husbandry.

I dont eat a lot of meat, and when I buy it I always try to buy the best I can. ie lean, known source, organic if possible
I love salmon, can be expensive - but soooo worth it. I an in NZ, I lived in London for a couple of years ago and found that the fish and meat was very expensive and quality pretty dire. This may be unfair, just ime.

Most things, tbh., but particularly good bread, good cheese, good fruit and veg, and good wine.

Good cheese (Manchego, Taleggio, Pecorino)
Orange and Lemon Squash (I drink quite a bit and nearly always buy Rocks Organic as it's much less unhealthy)
Home made quiche from my local deli.

Beef Fillet

Decent Stilton
Decent mature chedder (both hard to come by in Switzerland and bloody expensive as a result)

Islay single malts

PG Tips tea bags - (£4.50 for 80 here  )

Can't you get someone to post them to you?

Surely that'd be cheaper. Actually it's just cost me 80p to send an xmas card so maybe not

I normally bring back a couple of 250 boxes when I visit, but I ran out a couple of weeks ago and couldn't not have Tea until Xmas when I'm back again!

Nice olives, those tinned/jar ones are rubbish
Smoked salmon, good quality ham and bacon from the local butcher.
Free range corn fed chicken is an occasional treat but really worth it.
:)

Single malts - I'm planing on buying a 30 year old bottle of Laphroig for my 30th birthday next year, and that'll cost a fucking fortune :o

tbh, if I have the money I don't mind paying a lot for anything that's good quality - like pretty much everything in life, with food you tend to get what you pay for.

ooh, it is my 30th next year too, that is such a good idea! :D

Good steak..mmmm
Good cheese.A nice bit of brie wouldn't go a miss.
I know it's not really "splashing out",but I love having it in the fridge..a bit of goose fat for roast potatoes :) Olive oil is a good one too..
Id love to buy some nice fat olives actually. Will pick some up tommorow.Olives yeah

I'll spend on good food happily, but not to the detriment of my own bank balance

things I'll happily pay for:

cheese, meat, fish :)

gin :o

balsamic vinegar
miso (at £4 a jar, that is splashing out for me)
decent tofu
Good single malts - the Islays are nice, esp lagavulin, but tbh I prefer less peaty ones like jura, highland park & tobermory.

If I ate fish I would buy smoked salmon - I might try to find a truly sustainable source for treats.

I do quite well for organic cheese as my mate works in a wholefood shop and brings me out of date stuff  , also organic bread.
Any fruit and veg that isn't home-grown comes out of a local wholesaler's skip - it's fantastic. I also found a huge tub of kalamata olives in it recently, plus buffalo mozzarella, ricotta and mascarponi now and then.

The only meat i eat is roadkill, and I forage for my own nuts and fungi.

Yes, I'm a right skinflint, aren't I.

It'll be even more expensive for my 40th - last time I looked a bottle of 40yr old Laphroig was over a grand :D

You could always buy two bottles of 30 yr old, drink one and leave the other for 10 more years. Would save you a fortune ;)

I have to have a decent Parmesan with me pasta.

Can't drink any whisky apart from a malt, Talisker is my fave right now.

I splash out on a decent Bordeaux once in a while but as I drink wine everyday have to make do with the cheap stuff most of the time.

oh and mushrooms, I'm always spending loads on them. Shittake and all those funny shaped ones I don't know the name of:o
