Food you associate with childhood

Eggbread went with bacon goddamit. Syrup's just too sweet.

For me I associate childhood with simple things - gran's rick chook (jook/congee), west indian cook ups and fry chicken, curries. And Heinz tomato soup with added macaroni when I wasn't well.

Eggbread's not enough by itself. You were deprived as a child.

:(

To be fair, it's more a case of keeping things off the plate with my family. Never have one thing when 18 can vaguely fit on a plate.

Ive fallen out with someone over eggy bread on here before!

You had forbidden foods in your house?

yes, loads!
No sliced bread
no sweets
no cordial (no other drink than water really)
no cereal but weetabix, shredded wheat, grape nuts, that sort of thing
no sugar in things (which is why the syrup is right out)
I don't think these things were expressly forbidden but we didn't have them in the house - I'm glad of it though!

well we had it a side dish with other things like fish fingers or sausages

You ate eggy bread without syrup?

I feel sorry you. :( You were deprived and you didnt know it.

it's just irresponsible giving that to kids, I bet you lot had sugar sandwiches too. And I bet you all have fillings.

Grandma food: Salmon sandwiches made with tinned salmon and white bread. Served with gherkins and salad cream.

Petit Prince biscuits, godamn blanche, waffles, cornets of frites with a big blob of mayo on the side. Mussels and steaks. Tartines on wooden boards with sprinkles or apple syrup on the top.

Oh yes and our babysitter's mum used to make these things for us when we went round called Croques Madames but weren't really - toasted buttered bread, sliced apple, sprinkled with brown sugar and cinnamon and put under the grill until all bubbly. Mmmmmmmmmm

I never had it as a kid, I have it now.

It's like pancakes, bacon and syrup isn't it?

My local cafe type place does eggy bread stacks with syrup.

Whoa, your parents were militant.
We were friends with a family where they werent allowed tv and sweets. We honestly pitied them.

No Tizer for you :( No cherryade or any brightly coloured fizzy drinks!

You see parents now giving their kids goji berries and organic porridge and you just know there's no fun in their house. :( ((kids these days))

Some of you got really exotic foods! Falafel and flatbreads? I don't think my mum and dad know what those are even now.

My biggest memory is begging my mum not to put onions in everything and her saying 'oh you can't taste them' and putting them in anyway.

my mum did that  I said I didn't like onions, so she sneaked them into mashed spuds  i love onions now mind, my dad used to eat them like apples

As a kid, well the smell of boiled bacon and cabbage often greeted me when I came home from school, which we would eat with boiled spuds (boiled in their skins)

sometimes we had mince and potatoes (which i did like)

those frozen deserts, can't remember that they were called, came in a tub for one person, and we always tried to eat them frozen, rather than wait for them to defrost:D they came in 3 flavours, strawberry, chocolate or lemon - choc was clearly the king

cheese and tomato pizzas you put under the grill - small one person pizzas

I don't think they were militant at all, just healthy - it's a sound policy which I shall be inflicting on my own kids should a woman be fool enough to allow me to impregnate her.
