Food prices - have you noticed them rising?

I've noticed eggs and milk going up a lot. I paid $2.25 for a dozen eggs last week. A year ago they would have been $1.50. That's not even the free-range farmer's market eggs that I prefer, that's just standard supermarket eggs.

I do a weekly shop, and a daily shop. Sometimes twice a day if Kevin is really hungry, which is quite often.:(

I have noticed food prices rising faster than I can ever remember, even basics like bread and eggs are now way more expensive than they were even 6 months a go. It's the price of fuel that is causing this.
it's not just the cost of fuel, there's a global rice shortage, free range eggs are due to be in short supply unless prices go up again, amongst other factors.

WE've really noticed it recently. Bread is the most noticeable for us. A cheapo own-brand wholewheat loaf is around around the 68p mark now, when not too long ago it was about 45p. Bloody 68p! That used to be what Kingsmill posh stuff and all them fancy grain ones used to cost!

Mr Paw does most of the food shopping, but he has been exclaiming at the receipt a lot more recently.

Ive been planting stuff out on bits of Land around where I live, Mainly herbs but a coupla fruit trees, lets hope the council dont cut it all down.

Going to spar used to be an option if i was out of stuff, but not no more- even muller fruit corners are now 79 p in spar!!!!!!!

I think people might start asking me questions about what I'm growing if I use mirrors. Have some tomatoes on their way

79p for a fruit coroner? They're having a laugh :mad::D

I KNOW- im still getting over it:eek:

however tropicana OJ is only 1.99 which is not bad really----

And the price of wheat has rocketed, which is a big factor, as that's what they feed animals on, and obviously bread and pasta are made from wheat.

Maybe I'll stockpile tins and pasta then for when it get's really expensive!

I actually did this last week for the first time ever; bought an extra large bag each of pasta and rice.

Admittedly that's not exactly what you'd call 'panic buying', but I'm on a low/fixed income, and I figure that if prices are going to continue rising so fast (-and I can't see how that's not the reality), it's actually worthwhile me stocking up where possible.

Ive also noticed, being a trawler of reduced price shelves that there is hardly anything out of date that you can buy for 5-10-15p nowadays, its all around the ten bob mark (50p)

Rice is the main thing I've noticed. A 2kg bag of basmati from my local shop used to be about £4. Last time I bought one, it was nearer £6!

Vegetables from the market are perhaps a bit more than they were, but not all that much so, and I rarely buy meat so I don't notice. Can't say I've noticed dairy products going up that far either.

I can't say I've noticed particularly.

I don't buy any of the 'staple' things like bread, rice, eggs, cheese, sugar or meat. I am never quite sure of the normal price for milk - I buy it at various supermarkets, sometimes I get the organic which is always dearer and sometimes not and then the prices vary depending on if it's a litre or two pints.

Morrisons barn eggs not caged. :)

They are... it's just a bigger cage/barn with thousands of birds in. Not quite as bad as battery admitedly, but still harsh and using practices like beaking etc.

Our veg bag is still the same price but my mate who sells them appologised for having to put the eggs up recently.

No Offence to any of the above posters, but if people aint noticed the price hikes in food staples its probably becuase you dont have to keep too much of an eye on how much money you spend.

Any positives...

It could be educational for people who have been guilty of wasting food with abandon?
Perhaps some of the fat people will get thinner?
Perhaps some peoples manicured lawns will be put to use growing food?
Perhaps we will see the people of Dewsbury Moor fighting over road kill?

:)
