floyd landis goes missing

The easiest way to see who is cheating is to legalise all drugs, you know the people that improve the least have been on it the whole time..

I have a feeling there wouldn't be too many improvers in cycling.

It's a shame because it's such a great sport to watch but you can't help but feel you're not watching a true competition. Historically I wonder how many of the greats were also drug cheats, wasn't Tom Simpson's death drug related ?

anyone hear reading the French media??? bet they're have a right old time over this news after years of trying to nail Armstrong

cyclists (mis)use testosterone to aid muscle recovery.
Much like how you feel better after a long nights sleep they put a patch containing it on their testicles in the evening after an event. This aids recovery from hard efforts. The epo/calfs blood/human blood is more to keep high aerobic ability over the coming days.

What a cheat!!! Does anyone know when the second sample is due for a result?

Like Cherry, I think it would be quality to see racers take any drugs they want. Imagine the pumped up harcore beasts they'd be.... there would be all sorts of chat about which cocktails are the best and cheating would be replaced with a plaaying field of intelligence of choice and teeth gritting effort. There'd be a sub species of human athletes, prepared to modify and inject for sport. Almost gladatorial!

I'll be gutted if this is proved. I was just getting into the Tour this year and I don't know if I can be bothered now. :(

In case anyone is interested, there's a small article in this weeks New Scientist about the science of the test that Landis failed. You can't read all of it online unless you subscribe, but it's short enough to read through at a newstand without annoying the shopkeeper.

As far as I can tell, it looks like he'll have a hard time refuting this one.

I think Pereiro deserves it for that epic breakaway on Stage 13. What were Phonak thinking? Anyhoo, it's all academic now, with Landis out.

Phonak have sacked him, and with a dodgy hip he's a goner...and good riddance. It will take months for Oscar to officially be named the winner though

From Wikipedia

Tom Simpson (30 November 1937 - 13 July 1967) was a top English road racing cyclist of the 1960s who famously died of exhaustion on the slopes of Mont Ventoux during the 13th stage of the Tour de France. The post mortem found that he had taken amphetamines and alcohol, a diuretic combination which proved fatal when coupled with the hot conditions, the notoriously hard climb of the Ventoux and a pre-existing stomach complaint.
