Flouridation of water: Compulsory medication and the harm to the public.

From a Green Party press release:

MEP Dr Caroline Lucas has slammed the decision to fluoridate the water supply in Southampton, and said the region's health
authorities were "setting a reckless precedent" for future fluoridation
schemes in the South East.

She commented: “This ill-advised decision to implement water fluoridation in
Southampton demonstrates a contempt for the views of many local people - and for the evidence against fluoridation itself.

“When I raised my concerns about the scheme with the European Commission
last year, it admitted that the potential risks from water fluoridation are
not yet fully understood. Is it really wise to expose people to a
mass-medicating process that has never been risk-assessed?

“Fluoride, or fluorosilicic acid, is an untested hazardous waste, and to add
it to drinking water to supposedly prevent tooth decay is disproportionate
and cannot be justified. Water fluoridation has simply not been proven to be
effective for teeth, and some studies have even indicated links between
fluoridation and serious ill health effects, including thyroid problems,
skeletal fluorosis, bone cancers and mental problems.”

Dr Lucas continued: "This scheme in Southampton amounts to a mass medication of the population, and I will be liaising with my colleagues on the European Parliament’s Environment Committee to question the Commission’s weak position on fluoridation plans like this one.

“In place of mass fluoridation, the UK Government could be improving the
health of our teeth through targeted schemes such as providing free
toothpaste for poor families. This decision in Southampton sets a worrying
precedent for future fluoridation plans in the South East, and we must be
vigilant of further attempts to affect our water in this way."

I don't really like the idea of anything being added to my drinking water with out my say so or being dumbed down to by a company that I need.

I also am aware though that we have some of the cleanest water systems in the world.
Clean (as it is going to get on such a large demand) water is available to everybody pretty much on demand.

I am also aware that our drinking water contains many things other than fluoride, for many reasons, some of them for legitimate reasons, some of them possibly not.

Erm, I am not really sure where I am going with this but..... :hmm:

I read that on my travels, I think from here.
Try to limit drinking soda because it's generally made with fluoridated water. Reconstituted fruit juice, beer, and wine also tend to be made with fluoridated water. Read labels on bottled beverages and look for water purifed using reverse osmosis or distillation. If those processes are not specifically named, assume the water is fluoridated.

Read the label on bottled water. Again, look for water purified using reverse osmosis or distillation.

The "made with fluoridated water." is a reference to drinking soda, reconstituted fruit juice, beer, and wine. Not plain water.

Care to back that up?

I'd love too, but unfortunatly the only website I could back that up with, is one where doctors have been studying fluoride indipendantly, and the last time I posted it up, I was shot down in flames cos there weren't 6 trillion peer reviewed sources to back it up.

The website the info is kept on is http://www.fluoridealert.org/ Also has 23 published studies to suggest that fluoride lowers IQ.

I know who I'd beleive. And it ain't the goverment. but that is my choice to do so, we can all choose our news sources. :)

Care to back that up properly?

You don't want to/can't back it up then.

Don't want to/ can't be bothered. I know what i believe. I don't really care what anyone else believes. :)

So you make a claim but don't want post a proper source. Odd.

You're nuts

then so are the hundreds of doctors/ nurses/dentists/lawyers that oppose Fluoridation. Lock us all up!!

I don't really give a shite what you (or anyone else) thinks of me. I tend to think I'm rather special. I have a deep misstrust of anything the goverment go anywhere near. So an indipendant study is something that i am more enclined to read and believe. What's it to do with you anyway? Yiu can call me nuts if you like, but that just shows you up to be a bit of a cunt to be frank. But if you feel the need to degenerate into insults, then please, knock yourself out.

And as I provided the link. If someone else can now go and debunk all the hard work on that website. Smear the names of the doctors that have done the work, and prove their work to be wrong. Then maybe I'll conceed. UNtil then. You can all lick my ringer.

So you can't provide a proper source?

Why not just say so?
