Flock Web Browser

Hi,

Has anyone else tried the "new" Flock browser... Its a repackaged Firefox including "shelf" and access to webservices like blogs, flickr and del.icio.us... Using at the moment and its very snappy and something like the shelf is what I've been looking for ages -- imagine being able to put a web page somewhere for later browsing...

Its also got inbuilt support for RSS feeds like Safari. And thats what it seems to be -- Safari for Linux and Windows...

I was just reading about it this morning; it sounds very useful for bloggers, with the ability to highlight a bit of text and immediately create a blog post from it (complete with citation!), but it's got its work cut out if it's going to make any inroads into the browser marketplace.

Gonna try this out later, not sure if i'll migrate from Firefox tbh but still interested in having a look...

Hmmm, to be honest, I can't see what it is they're doing that couldn't be covered by a firefox skin and a few plugins.

All power to them if they want to re-invent the web browser, more grist to their mill and it doesn't stop me using my favoured browser; konqueror.

I do wonder where their funding comes from, ie. they are hiring people to come and work for them in Paolo Alto (what a surprise). However, it's not clear where their money is coming from or how they intend to make money, which is implied by the fact that they are employing people.

They mention in a few places that this or that would be good or bad for "the business", but say nothing about what that business will be.

So......... what are they up to?

Making an exceedingly slow browser, if my experience of the thing is anything to go by.

It hangs for a couple of seconds before going to each page - I think I'll stick with Safari!

That's essentially what it is IIRC. As I imagine you know, the Moz/FF interface is written in XUL, which is kinda like an interface language you write in XML. Hence it's very flexible indeed.

I read on /. that they're expecting money via referrals from search engines (like Opera), blogging sites and the like.
