flight of the conchords

The songs just make me cringe. Dunno why. At least The Mighty Boosh's songs are good and have catchy tunes. These aren't.

Where's the Bret love?
I'm not that keen on all the songs so far, but I love the rest of it.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone do those type of songs better, I think.

But it's definitely a grower.

I half laughed once. It was dreadful. The songs were awful. Is that the best the BBC can do? There's a lot of very disappointing and derivative comedy around at the mo. This was just a poorly written rip off of Peep Show with toe-curling songs.

Um, the BBC didnt do it.. two chancers from NZ did it. With HBO's help.

Think its pretty fucking funny myself, the edinburgh festival thought so too, as did the toronto festival and crucially the demographic most highly valued by those in power at the US networks. Young blokes.

I was kinda shocked it was going down so well in the states last time i was in NY, given the number of kiwi in-jokes they use. my accent was all of a sudden an asset ;) jermaine is the man at the mo over there.

Still, sure u can catch re-runs of the peep show on UK gold.

If that girl hadn't been in it, I don't think many people would have even thought about Peep Show.

the songs are great....but I guess not to everyones taste...I just like the stupidity of it....and the binary solo in the robot song, also
I'm not crying...its just raining in my face...:D

it was about two pathetic, emotionally retarded losers trying to get girlfriends.

Any guy who has a mate knows this scenario at some point in the laughable existence he calls his life.

I don't associate it Peep Show at all. PS's distinction was the monologues inside Jez and Mark's heads, and they did it superbly.

I'll persevere with the Conchords though, but on first glance I prefered the theatre show last week.

It was hyped up in the guardian guide, so I didn't watch it. Well also I can't get BBC4, but I wouldn't watch it anyway. :p

Pet Shop Boys? I was thinking more Kraftwerk or Daft Punk. Doesn't matter really I guess.

Last night's was better I thought.

I can't say I'm familiar with much contempory culture at all from New Zealand. My Antipodean comedy knowledge extends to Dame Edna and the sillier bits of Neighbours.
And obviously none at all then...
 :D

Just been recommended this following a discussion about The Mighty Boosh!

Loved Jemaine Clement in Eagle vs Shark so added this to my list :

Just started watching this last night after buying the 1st season on a whim and after watching a few episodes, I haven't laughed so hard watching a show in a while.

I love it's totally dead-pan acting from the two guys, that is suddenly countered by them bursting into some ridiculous, genre-based song, like the hilarious reggae rap about being a Boom King.

Brilliant stuff. :D:D
