First live band you ever saw?

depeche mode - bath pavillion 1979 (supported by blancmange)

followed swiftly by the undertones, stiff little fingers and the pretenders at the same venue

just been corrected on the depeche mode thread, it must have been 1980

Run DMC, way back

One of only two good hip-hop shows I've ever seen, the other being dilated peoples a couple of years ago...

First gig I got taken to as a kid was either The Baron Knights or The Spinners sometime in the 70s.
can't imagine why you never told me that before...;)

my first gig was some post punk night in a pub somewhere in south london with my mate, in 1989/90. her mum took us because she knew someone running it. not very memorable except for a bloke i dated for a little while afterwards who i met in the audience. I was 15 or 16 and he was 32.:o

the second gig i went to was something similar atthe marquee in charing cross road. again taken by my mate's mum. I do remember the headliners were called "chunk".:D

i genuinely can't remember the first band i chose and paid to go and see... would have been some dodgy goth outfit, i daresay.

Does seeing Arcade Fire twice in the last week and five times in total make up for it? Not to mention The Flaming Lips thirteen times ...? :D :p

mmmm mebbe - cos did you see the Paul Morley interview with Arcade Fire in the Observer at the weekend? Win Butler was on about how he first got in to music and which bands la la la (the Bunnymen, oh there's a suprise) and talked about how realising that Bush and Nirvana sounded the same but were clearly not the same thing was an important moment for him................

that's quite garbled isn't it? but you see the point.

 On my wish-I-coulda-been-there list
One of the best gigs I ever went to was the Undertones 'last ever' gig at the Lyceum. It turned out to be their penultimate one as they later supported Peter Gabriel.

Circa 72/73 I think? and it was Roxy Music at the Victoria Hall Hanley, Stoke on Trent, just as Virginia Plain was charting then a few weeks later I saw Led Zepp at Trentham Ballroom

Wick-eeeed!

i'm jealous of so many of these. especially saxon.

denim! and leather! keeps us together! etc...actually that's all i know...

:)

Not sure, but first proper memory is Chumbawamba, 1994/5 maybe? All I remember is my mates mum saying she was paying for us to go and see them for my mates birthday and thinking she meant that Jumanji film with Robin Williams in it. Then meeting a bloke who had one of those flesh tunnels so big in his ear that he kept a big roll of sellotape in it, getting really pissed and generally being nonced on a bit by stinky drunk crusties.

Really? You must have been very young.

I was 12 and if I am honest I have no real memory of it, and I was only there for a few minutes before my baby sitter came :o I just happened to be there (woohoo for older brothers). It was at hte Mayfair in Newcastle, around christmas time. Legend has it that the owners of the Mayfair recorded it on VHS. However the Mayfair was pulled down some moons ago, which I'm really sad about as it was a place that made my college years fucking ace. Saw some ace bands there :)

First band I properly saw live would have been Pink Floyd in Earls Court a few years later.

My mates band in some pub.

First proper gig. Lloyd Cole And The Fucking Commotions. They were shit.

First: The Barron Knights at Bertram Mills Circus.

Second: Jefferson Airplane free concert on Parliament Hill (69/70?)

The first real bands I saw were at Weeley festival in Essex Aug '71.

Couple of weeks ago, my mates' little brothers' friend (with me so far) remarked on how he can remember dancing to Firestarter when he was seven

First bands I ever went to see, were "Too Angry to Eat" and "Babelfish" at St Crispins in Wokingham.

I must have been 13/14 or so.

First *ahem* real band I saw was Dire Straits at Earls Court. My mates dad took us and it was great.
