Paedo!

Melinda; if you ever happen to be in Dartmoor give Anton Coaker a call, has one of the most picturesque farms ever and sells lamb and beef reared on the moors (think a half lamb is the smallest amount you can buy, but the price isn't too bad). Lovely guy, know him because he runs a timber yard there too; family has been on the farm since the mid 19th century.

Heh, has a blog now too it seems...

Hey Cid- cheers for the link :)

I was a little thrown because it seems meat is only part of what Sherberton Farm produce- they also sell rugs! :hmm:

Have you used them before?

There is a flat rate for beef of £6.10 per Kg which appears to be half the price of Jimmy's Farm- but then Jimmy's animals are rare breeds and free range. http://www.jimmysfarm.com/shop/ The meat we got from Jimmy's was just delicious- we ordered quite a bit- ribeye and rump steaks, lamb shoulder, bacon and sausages.

Quick question about lamb in case you or Madz are still up:
Sherberton only sell lamb 'by the half', and 'the customer takes meat from both ends of the beast.' :D What does that mean? Im imaging face and arse cuts!

There doesnt seem to be an online ordering system, but I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Not for half a lamb, no... My mum bought some from the local butchers who used to sell on his stuff when she came down to visit me. By far the best I've tasted.

They sell timber and ponies too... His flock and herd were culled during foot and mouth so he decided to diversify iirc.

You don't get much more free-range than Dartmoor... :D

I think the thing about something like Jimmy's farm is that part of what you're buying is always going to be 'the brand'.

Afaik it means half a lamb, both ends meaning you'll get it from all over; so stewing meat from the neck all the way back to the leg.

No, he's not really that kind of operation... He's not producing huge amounts of meat and Dartmoor is a pretty irresistible selling point so don't think he has much trouble getting hold of buyers! I'm not sure what his delivery arrangements are for smaller orders; whenever I bought timber from him I drove down anyway.
