fireworks: where are you ooh-ing?

I couldn't find any either.. there was something in their minutes about their anniversary celebrations on the 24th though :)

From here
item 8: Karen Morgan drew attention to the firework display which the Crystal Palace Foundation would be organising on the weekend of 25-26 November to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Crystal Palace fire.

Found this though..
A spectacular fireworks display is being planned to take place at Crystal Palace. However, people expecting to turn up to see the display on Guy Fawkes Night will be disappointed as the display has been rescheduled for the 30th November.

The annual fireworks display, which last year attracted 10,000 people, has been moved at the request of the Crystal Palace Foundation. They want the display to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Crystal Palace burning down. The change of date was approved by the London Development Agency.

Crystal Palace always do a good job and it's a nice walk home afters :)

Won't be going to Blackheath though.Went there last year and almost got hit by a rocket that youts were chucking about. My ear went deaf for 3days.Horrid.The display lasted for about 15-20 mins too, which was a bit of a shame. We were expecting it to go on for a bit longer.

I've heard Clapham's good but i can't be trekking down SW.I think ill be sticking with palace.

Think me and MiniStrumpet will be off to our friends house for lotsa fireworks and foodage and merriment!
Although...I like being in with the dog but this year I have MiniStrumpet :D (she has been with her daddy for last 2 years for Guy Fawkes)so we have to go celebrate!

Must make sure I have Vervain remedy in and the radio on loud and all curtains closed...

well i will be going to brockwell park this year, if i am well enough i will physically go into the park if i am not well enough i am going to pull a chair up and watch from the window. :)

I fancy going to the picnic with a view spot and watching multiple displays. ;)

We did this in 2004, but in my recollection the views of fireworks were a bit disappointing -- you could see loads all around, but mainly so distant there was a distinct lack of 'oooh' factor ...

I'm probably going to Brockwell Park with my friend and her kid, it's a pity all the Lambeth displays seem to be on the Friday though, I could have made a whole weekend out of it! I've also been invited to Parliament Square on Sunday and instructed to wear black and bring cider which sounds a bit dubious since I'm not 15, but I've got nothing better to do.

that's a right pain that they do that. it means loads of rushing around after work to try and get there. last year i only made it in the nick of time.

I think I've missed it for the past 2 years, spending all my time trying to meet some dodgepots or other, only to arrive as the phush of the last rocket goes off.

And then - blinking hell - you've got to trudge back from the park in the dark and then queue up for ages in the local. I may just stay in the pub this year and avoid the queues.

I've racked my brains for all of 30 seconds and honestly cannot see why they do it like that - why not have Brockwell Park on Saturday and Clapham Common on Sunday or whatever? Surely it wouldn't cost any more and they'd be able to use the same people? Am I missing something really obvious? Maybe the punters would get confused? SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT THIS!

What he said.

I didn't think there was a Crystal Palace display last year

Yep there was, but it was on a smaller scale and pretty rubbish compared to what they normally do.

is brockwell park worth it? fancy a fuck off display this year

of course! Brocky's a fantastic display. I can't be arsed to go, I watch it from my living room which is warmer, but do tend to miss a lot as facing the wrong way.

Am trying to decide whether to brave the cold and go to one this year.

Which is better, Brocky or Clapham Common?

I think we're doing Brockwell Park, more from a lack of imagination than anything.

But Pie Face is on her annual home made toffee apple, pumpkin soup and mullahed wine frenzy again, so how can i resist?

we're doing southwark park on the sunday this year. that'll be better than trying to rush from work to brockwell park on friday and then ruining the fun for others cos i'll be stressed and moody  :)

Umm, was I at a different display at Brocky last year to everyone else? I thought last years was shite! I'm off to Clapham on the Friday and then Battersea Park on Saturday - dunno how good Clapham will be, but have been to Battersea the last 4 years and it's always fucking awesome (probably because you have to cough up £2 to get in, but I reckon it's well worth it.)

But Brockwell last year was very quiet/low key IMO.

Heck, I'm a south Londoner and I'm going to Ally Pally. I reckon it's the best of the lot. Blackheath may have a better display in-situ, but Ally Pally has a great display *and* you can see a half-dozen others from up there. Plus mini beer fest and fair rides. :)
