Firework displays

Important Notice For Lambeth Residents (and Southwark And Wandsworth Freeloaders)

All three of Lambeth's FREE fireworks displays (Brockwell Park, Clapham Common and Streatham Common) will be on Friday 4th November with displays starting at 7.30.

[LR froths at mouth at Lambeth's abandonment of tradition of celebrating Fireworks Night actually on 5th November  ]

oh for god's sake! I was pleased that there wouldn't be a mad rush after work this year, with it falling on a saturday... what the fuck is wrong with lambeth council?!

why bother having it on the friday when bonfire night is on the saturday? that's very very stupid.

AFAIK Lambeth were the last London borough that still ran all of their displays on the 5th every year. The staffing required to meet health and safety requirements has meant that for the last ten years or so, most boroughs have staggered them over a couple of days (or even the weekend before in Wandsworth!).

It was the last great symbol of the People's Republic of Lambeth to see your council tax going up so literally in smoke on three properly spectacular simultaneous firework displays*. I've no objection - from the looks on the faces of my friends and neighbours' kids, the ratio of pleasure/cost has to be better than any other service the borough provides.

* Lambeth conspiracy theory - I'm told that once upon a time the only place that had a view of all three was the top floor of Courtenay House on Brixton Hill, the former home of Lambeth Environmental Services, now converted to flats. Invites for the Director's bonfire night drinks party were highly prized.

I will be going to the one in Battersea Park where it boasts a pre-display fire show by EMF Technology! Cool! It is however £4 to get in but i think it's well worth it from what i've heard.

Saturday 5 November
Battersea Park, Albert Bridge Road SW11
Admission £4, under 10's free.
Bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm and the display will begin at 8pm

Battersea Park is quite good if you do want the full display and a bit of a show, lights, music and that sort of jazz.

To be honest my favourite fireworks night (barring ancient romantic attachments) was with a load of Urbanites on a hill in Dulwich and one of the best views to be had in all over London. However, next time, if there is a next time, the Urban75 pyromaniacs need to be encouraged to bring some greater quantity of explosives with them. Where's SilentNate when you need him?

Anyone know if the fireworks display in Victoria Park has been any good in the past? Or recommendations for any other Hackney/east London displays?

Canary Wharf Fireworks Displays
Canary Wharf will be centre stage for one of the most impressive fireworks displays in East London. The fireworks displays will not be taking place on Bonfire Night but they will be combining a commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Guy Fawkes with a celebration of the recent opening of the Clysedale Bank at Canary Wharf.

East London Fireworks Displays
Huge fireworks displays will light up the East London skyline on Thursday 3rd November. The fireworks displays take place at Riverside, Canary Wharf at 5.45pm for a 6pm start and are choreographed by the company responsible for the VJ display on the Thames.

Admission to the fireworks displays is free and as an extra special touch sparklers will be distributed throughout the crowd, free of charge.

There is always a great public fireworks dislay on Blackheath SE London.

There certainly is. We'll be watching it from our balcony, 12 floors up. I would invite you all, but it's a small flat. :p
