Hehe, just popped into town for the Serenity DVD, I was looking at the box in the chippy afterwards and some girl sidles up and starts asking me about it. I'm not used to my SF geekery being an asset when talking to women. :D

Well, I've seen it!

It was really really good! The only thing I thought was missing were the "inbetweeny" (don't know how else to describe it!) bits from the TV series - some of the best/funniest/most moving moments were when they were all sitting about, chatting or eating or something - there was a lot more plain action in the film. I guess there's a limit on how much they can put in a film though, and that probably only matters if you've seen the TV series and know the characters. That's the other thing I wondered, would it be as good if you hadn't? Like there were a couple of moments that I thought, would you really care about that if you hadn't watched the TV series and know that character really well?

I ve got the sernity dvd and the box set .If i win the lottery going to track down who ever cancelled it and pie them .That and space above and beyond it still hurts :o :)

Just been to video shop, it's not out yet. :(

Belushi - even worse -it was cancelled after 11! They put the other 3 on the DVD.

Petition to bring it back here http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/revivefirefly

This may be the geekiest moment of my life....it's nearly 6pm and I'm still in my pyjamas, on an internet chat page, trying to get people to sign an online petition to bring back a sci-fi drama. :o

I take it you're American, scumblina, as all 14 episodes of Firefly made before cancellation, was transmitted by the Sci-Fi Channel here in the U.K...
Mind you, the last episode of Dollhouse season 1 transmitted by Sci-Fi recently, (Season 2 starts in the U.K on the 20th October on the Sci-Fi Channel) was Epitaph One, & that's listed as a "Bonus, Unseen Episode", on the Region 1 DVD boxset...

I did, & I still stand by my comment as at the time, I posted on the Nitpicker Central 2 Forum (based in the U.S) about the last 3 episodes, which at the time fellow reviewers had not seen due to cancellation, before the DVD boxset had been released in the U.S..

Isn't it being continued/filled in with a comic series? I really enjoyed the buffy season 8 comic, but for some reason the idea of a firefly comic doesn't appeal to me as much.

I bought one comic, I think it was the bit between firefly and serenity. It was a bit shit.

I love the bad foreigner Chinese they use. Like saying 'wo de pigu' (my arse). Of course, Chinese people don't really say this so it's well funny if you know the language, some of it is more like proper chinese though. I was showing it to my wife earlier and explaining the concept, she thought it was great.

Here's a bit from Nathan Fillon's new show Castles. He's trying on his Halloween costume.

All I'm saying is it includes the line "Didn't you wear that costume five years ago?"

:D

Saw that earlier this week.

I'm glad to see Fillion finally have a show that got a back 9 order.

Watched this episode last night and was a great Captain Mal cameo, complete with a few bars from the Firefly theme music which made me all nostalgic , apparently when he came out dressed as Mal there was piece of Serenity on the bookcase behind him, but I'm not quite sad enough to have spotted that myself.

Actually that whole episode was so crammed with in jokes and references I lost track of the plot for a while

Things I spotted

The Buffy reference (well that was easy)
Dark Horse Comics reference who do the Serenity and Buffy comics
Plus the pumpkin he carved looked suspiciously similar to the pumpkin carving currently on the dark horse site
The Dr Horrible mad scientist laugh from another Nathon Fillion movie
Referencing Lucien and the Lycans from Underworld

And it always kind of niggled that I recognised the Spanish detective but could not quite place him....until the penny dropped with a resounding clink he turned up at the party dressed as his Generation Kill character

And I'm sure there were even more obscure pop culture references thrown into that episode to please even the most anal fanboy

Yes, they handled it almost as well as SG1 handled their first year with Richard Dean Anderson in the cast.

There's a classic bit where they're trapped in an elevator (the classic McGuiver plot element). Everyone looks meaningfully at Jack, expecting him to do something to rescue them.

Jack says "Who do you think I am? McGuiver?"

Classic.:D
